RH Jimmy Kimmel breaks his silence on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert cancellation, firing back with a blunt message: “F— you, CBS” — a raw reaction that’s shaking up late-night TV.
The news of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert‘s cancellation is rocking the late-night world.

Stephen Colbert announced on Thursday, July 17, that his show is ending after 10 seasons and that next year will be his last, a revelation that was immediately met with boos from the crowd. The reaction echoes how Colbert, 61, feels about the news, too.
He revealed during a taping that he “found out just last night” about the decision. “Next year will be our last season. The network will be ending The Late Show in May.”
Colbert’s fellow late-night hosts are now weighing in on the news too.
In a post shared on Instagram Stories following Colbert’s announcement, ABC’s late night host Jimmy Kimmel shared a clip of Colbert from the July 17 broadcast. “Love you Stephen,” Kimmel wrote.
He also took the opportunity to call out the network behind the decision. “F— you and all your Sheldons CBS,” Kimmel added.

Jimmy Fallon, host of NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, also shared his disappointment in an Instagram Story. “I’m just as shocked as everyone. Stephen is one of the sharpest, funniest hosts to ever do it,” Fallon wrote. “I really thought I’d ride this out with him for years to come. I’m sad that my family and friends will need a new show to watch every night at 11:30. But honestly, he’s really been a gentleman and a true friend over the years — going back to The Colbert Report, and I’m sure whatever he does next will be just as brilliant.”
Seth Meyers weighed in too. “For as great a comedian and host he is, Stephen Colbert is an even better person,” he wrote in a post on his Instagram Stories. “I’m going to miss having him on TV every night but I’m excited he can no longer use the excuse that he’s ‘too busy to hang out’ with me.”
The rest of Hollywood is also reacting to the shocking decision — and they’re not happy either.
A slew of stars commented on an Instagram post shared by The Late Show and Colbert’s personal account.
“Love you Stephen. This is absolute bulls—,” Adam Scott wrote. “And I for one am looking forward to the next 10 months of shows. ✊😡💔.”
Katie Couric said she’s “so upset about this” and asked for “more information,” as she wrote, “We love you.”
“My admiration and appreciation for you is bottomless,” Judd Apatow wrote in a comment. “Excited to see what other brilliance you put into the world. ❤️”Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel behind the scenes during the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards.

Jon Batiste called Colbert “the greatest to ever do it” and Rachel Zegler wrote, “I am extremely sad. I adore you, Stephen.”
During Anderson Cooper‘s AC360 broadcast on Thursday, he, too, weighed in and said he’s “shocked and truly saddened” by the news. “Stephen Colbert is smart and he is funny, and he has actual conversations with people on his program,” Cooper said.

The announcement came days after Colbert criticized CBS’ parent company, Paramount, for their settlement with President Donald Trump.
On the July 14 episode of his show, Colbert called out Paramount for the $16 million settlement made with Trump, who had alleged that CBS’ 60 Minutes deceptively edited an interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris.Stephen Colbert on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’.
In a statement shared with PEOPLE, CBS said of the cancellation, “This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.”

“Our admiration, affection, and respect for the talents of Stephen Colbert and his incredible team made this agonizing decision even more difficult,” the statement continued. “Stephen has taken CBS late night by storm with cutting-edge comedy, a must-watch monologue and interviews with leaders in entertainment, politics, news and newsmakers across all areas.”

The final season of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will air during the 2025-2026 season.
