Black boy saves old man Michael Jordan from falling on busy street; The next day, a black car stops in front of his house…
In a small, worn-down neighborhood, where the streets were cracked and the houses were old, lived a twelve-year-old boy named Derek. He was a kind-hearted kid with a passion for soccer, but life had not been easy for him. His mother, Maria, worked tirelessly cleaning houses to make ends meet, while his little sister, Nia, brought joy to their humble home with her laughter and imagination. Despite their struggles, Derek always tried to keep a brave face, especially for Nia.
One hot afternoon, after playing soccer with his friends on a dirt patch, Derek was walking home when he noticed an elderly man in a wheelchair stuck in the middle of the street. Cars honked and swerved around him, but the old man looked terrified, his hands fumbling at the wheels. Without thinking, Derek dropped his backpack and sprinted toward the man.
“Hold on!” he shouted, grabbing the wheelchair handles. With all his strength, he pulled the man to safety just as a car screeched to a halt nearby. The old man looked up at him, relief washing over his face. “Thank you, young man,” he said, his voice trembling.
Derek nodded, still catching his breath. “Can you make it home?” he asked. The man nodded slowly, gratitude shining in his eyes.
After the encounter, Derek returned home, feeling a mix of exhaustion and pride. He didn’t tell his mother about the incident; she had enough to worry about. That night, as he lay in bed, he thought about how he could help his family. They were behind on rent, and he felt powerless to change their situation.
The next morning, Maria handed Derek a piece of bread for breakfast, her eyes red from lack of sleep. “You need to eat, okay? And look after Nia after school. I have to work late tonight,” she said, her voice weary. Derek nodded, knowing how hard she worked, but feeling the weight of their struggles pressing down on him.
After school, Derek passed by the soccer field again, the empty dirt patch reminding him of his dreams. He longed to play for a real team, to wear a jersey and feel the thrill of the game. But those dreams felt distant, like a story meant for someone else.
As he walked home, lost in thought, he heard shouting and honking. He looked up to see the same old man from the other day, stuck in the street again. Panic surged through Derek. Without a second thought, he ran toward the man, ignoring the shouts from bystanders.
“Get out of the road, kid!” someone yelled, but Derek didn’t stop. He reached the old man just in time, grabbing the wheelchair and pulling with all his might. The cars honked angrily, but Derek focused on getting the man to safety. Finally, they reached the curb, and the old man looked up at him, gratitude filling his eyes. “Thank you, young man,” he said again, his voice shaky but warm.
Derek felt a rush of relief. He didn’t know why he had done it, but it felt good to help someone, even if it didn’t change his own circumstances. He picked up his backpack and headed home, feeling a little lighter.
When he got home, Maria was sitting at the kitchen table, her face clouded with worry. “Derek, I got a notice today,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “If we don’t pay the rent by the end of the month, they’re going to evict us.”
Derek’s heart sank. He wanted to protect his family, but he felt powerless. “I’ll find a way to help, Mom,” he promised, determination filling his voice. “I can take on more jobs around the neighborhood.”
That night, as he lay in bed, he thought about the old man and how he had felt when he helped him. Maybe he could do more. The next day, after dropping Nia off at school, Derek went back to the neighborhood, looking for odd jobs. He carried groceries for neighbors and helped with yard work, but it was never enough.
One afternoon, as he passed the soccer field, he kicked a loose ball and let his mind wander. He imagined himself playing in a real stadium, wearing a jersey with his name on it. Just then, a shiny black car pulled up beside him. The window rolled down, and he recognized the old man from the street.
“Hey, kid!” the man called out, smiling. “Can we talk for a minute?”
Derek approached the car, surprised. The man introduced himself as Charles and thanked Derek for saving him. “I wanted to repay you for your kindness,” he said, pulling out an envelope. “This is for you. Use it to help your family.”
Derek’s eyes widened as he opened the envelope, revealing more money than he had ever seen. “I can
The Last Dance meme of Michael Jordan jamming on bus goes viral
One moment from the final episode of Netflix documentary The Last Dance has fuelled the creation of another viral Michael Jordan meme.
The final two chapters of Netflix documentary series The Last Dance were released on Monday, and there were countless talking points for fans to ponder.
But aside from Michael Jordan’s shock admission he’d have considered signing with the Chicago Bulls for another year, one unsuspecting moment from Episode Ten quickly went viral.
A few hours before Game One of the 1998 NBA finals, Jordan was filmed jamming along to music at the back of the team bus. Donning sunglasses and a set of headphones, the basketball legend bops his head along with the R&B track “Days Like This”.
“What are you listening to?” someone queries.
“Kenny Lattimore,” Jordan replies with a smug smile.
“Brand new, not even out yet. He’s a friend of mine, you know.”
Lattimore himself had no idea Jordan used his music to get hyped ahead of career-defining games.
“In 1998 I sent Michael Jordan an advanced copy of my From the Soul of Man album. Who knew ‘Days Like This’ was his pre-game hype song though,” Lattimore tweeted on Monday.
Inevitably, the internet jumped on the opportunity to create another Michael Jordan meme, and the aptly named “Michael Jordan Jamming Out” Twitter page was born.
The Twitter profile shares the same clip of Jordan smiling and bopping from The Last Dance, but with an assortment of different music played over the top, and the results are hilarious.
Within two days of the profile’s creation, it boasts over 38,000 followers on Twitter.
A few personal favourites include Jordan jamming out to a bit of old-school Miley Cyrus.
Australian dance producer FISHER and his 2018 hit “Losing It” is also featured.
But nothing trumps Jordan dancing along to the soundtrack of High School Musical.
A bunch of sporting franchises joined the bandwagon, sharing a version of the Jordan clip with their theme songs.

One Twitter user couldn’t ignore the opportunity to overlay the Greater Western Sydney Giants theme song, which became the AFL’s most successful meme in last year.
