After multiple people were shot at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory parade, the team’s quarterback Patrick Mahomes, his wife Brittany and linebacker Drue Tranquill have sent prayers for the victims.

In a post to X (formerly Twitter), Mahomes, 28, wrote, “Praying for Kansas City.”

Tranquill, 28, wrote, “Please join me in prayer for all the victims in this heinous act. Pray that doctors & first responders would have steady hands & that all would experience full healing.”

Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, also posted an Instagram story in support of the victims. “Shooting is never the answer,” she wrote. “Praying for Kansas City & America in general, this is rough.”

One person was killed and 22 were injured after shots rang out near Union Station at the parade shortly after Chiefs players left the stage, Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graces said during a Wednesday press conference.

At the second press conference, Graves said authorities were still working on the total number of victims and identifying the deceased victim.

“Three persons were detained and under investigation for today’s incident,” Graves added. “Right now we do not have a motive.”

Kansas City Fire Chief Ross Grundyson said that the injured included “eight immediately life-threatening, seven life-threatening and six were minor injuries.” The injured were transported to three different hospitals: Children’s Mercy, Truman Medical and St. Luke’s.

On social media, police asked fans gathered for the parade to “exit the area as quickly and safely as possible and avoid the parking garage in order to facilitate treatment of shooting victims,” adding that, “Many of you have footage of many officers securing union station, they are working to provide for the safety of everyone inside union station and expedite care of those injured.”

According to a PEOPLE reporter at the parade, loud pops rang through the crowd as the confetti came down while players departed the stage.

Detectives were seen investigating shootings at Liberty Memorial Park and obtaining footage from witnesses after shooting during the Superbowl Victory Celebration in Kansas City, MO helicopters were seen overhead and police also used drones to survey the scene.

A woman attending the parade with friends told PEOPLE, “I saw two people bleeding on the ground and we got out of there as fast as we could run.”

Another woman with her husband and daughter started running as soon as she heard the shots. “When people start running like that, I knew it was something,” she said.
