Vitoria Mario, an 18-year-old girl originally from Portugal, moved to Tottenham, UK, four years ago to live with relatives after her father passed away. Her mother remained in Portugal. Despite her hardships, Vitoria excelled academically and was accepted into the prestigious Warwick University to study Mathematics. However, financial challenges threatened to derail her dream.

Due to her residency status, Vitoria didn’t qualify for social assistance loans, and her family’s low income couldn’t cover the cost of tuition, supplies, and living expenses. Determined not to give up, she turned to the fundraising platform GoFundMe, seeking £40,000 (over $50,000) to support her education for four years.

In her heartfelt appeal, Vitoria explained, “Sadly, my father passed away, and my mother is still in Portugal. Leaving her was a difficult decision, but my family believed it was a necessary sacrifice for a better future. Education in England offers unparalleled opportunities, but it comes with significant trade-offs.”

Desperate for help, Vitoria sent emails to 442 companies and left handwritten letters in postboxes across London’s wealthiest neighborhoods. Yet, her pleas went unanswered—until Patrick Mahomes came across her story.
