Fans are urging Stan Bowman to claim Jesse Puljujärvi off waivers
It was announced earlier today that the Pittsburgh Penguins have placed forward
Jesse Puljujärvi on waivers, and an intriguing opportunity has presented itself for GM Stan Bowman.
Jesse Puljujärvi AKA “Pool Party” AKA “Bison King” was a polarizing figure during his time in Oil Country. Fans either loved him, or hatted him — and they all had their reasons.
While Puljujarvi had a strong showing during training camp, his performance eventually started to taper off, and head coach Mike Sullivan eventually put his foot down.
Following a few stints in the press box, Penguins GM Kyle Dubas made the executive decision to place the big Finn on waivers.
Oilers fans want Puljujarvi back in Oil Country
While the news of Puljujarvi hitting the waiver wire has generated quite a bit of attention around the league, Oilers fans see this as a big opportunity to bring the Bison King home.
Take a look at what fans are saying on social media:
Cap-wise, it’s also a move that can easily be made, as Puljujarvi carries just a $800,000 cap hit. Style-wise, he also seems to fit the bill for a Knoblauch-type system, prioritizing players who can perform in all three areas of the ice. Puljujarvi is a responsible defensive player who has shown offensive instincts. It’s hard to believe the big Finn would find himself in the same doghouse that Jeff Skinner is currently in.

While Puljujarvi’s future in the NHL seems uncertain, Oilers fans seem convinced that another stint in Northern Alberta could help turn his game around.
Puljujärvi also came into the 2024-25 campaign fresh off a double hip surgery, a procedure notirously difficult to come back from.
Through 21 games this season, Puljujärvi has managed 3 goals and 5 assists and posts a -2 rating on the ice.
