BREAKING: Outrage Erupts — U.S. Erases Black WWII Heroes Memorial After Heritage Foundation Pressure

In a shocking and deeply troubling move, the United States government has quietly removed a memorial dedicated to African-American soldiers who helped liberate Europe from Nazi occupation during World War II. This act, carried out after a complaint from the Heritage Foundation—a right-wing think tank known for its role in Project 2025—has sparked outrage across the globe and cast a dark shadow over this year’s Veterans Day commemorations.

A Memorial Erased

The memorial, which stood at the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, was more than just a tribute. It was a solemn recognition of the 8,000 Americans buried there, including 172 Black soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom abroad, even as they were denied equality at home. Two panels had honored these heroes: one shared the story of the million Black men who volunteered to fight fascism while enduring segregation and racism within their own ranks; the other was dedicated to George H. Pruitt, a Black telephone engineer who died saving a comrade in 1945.

But sometime this year, those panels simply vanished.

The Heritage Foundation’s Role

According to Dutch newspapers and stunned local historians, the American Battle Monuments Commission—a U.S. federal agency—removed the panels following a Heritage Foundation complaint. The group argued that the memorial violated a Trump-era executive order banning diversity and inclusion initiatives. In essence, honoring Black soldiers who fought Nazis was deemed too “woke” for public display.

International and Bipartisan Backlash

The removal has ignited fierce criticism. Theo Bovens, conservative Christian Democratic leader of the “Black Liberators in the Netherlands” foundation, called the action “indecent and unacceptable.” He underscored the historical reality: about 12.5% of American liberators in Europe were Black, yet their contributions have been systematically overlooked and erased.

In an extraordinary show of unity, eleven Dutch political parties—from left to right—have joined forces to demand a new memorial be built to replace the one America erased. Their stance is clear: erasing history dishonors the dead and undermines the values for which these soldiers fought.

Official Evasion and Public Outcry

The American Battle Monuments Commission has offered little comfort, stating only that the panels are “not on display, but not out of circulation.” For many, this bureaucratic language is a thinly veiled admission that the memorial is gone, with no guarantee it will ever return.

This act of historical vandalism, driven by right-wing culture warriors, sends a chilling message: the heroism and sacrifice of Black Americans can be erased at the whim of political extremists. These soldiers dug graves, buried the fallen, and helped free a continent. Now, their memory is under threat.

Refusing to Let History Be Buried

The least we can do is refuse to let those who would erase these heroes succeed. Their names and stories deserve to be remembered, honored, and shared. The fight for truth, justice, and recognition continues—not just for the living, but for the dead who gave everything for a freedom that remains unfinished.
