As if things weren’t exciting enough for America’s Got Talent winner Richard Goodall, he took a big step in his personal life days before the finale. Goodall married his fiancée Angie!
Who’s Richard Goodall’s Wife?
The singing middle school janitor and his fiancée Angie Vanoven married on September 18. He shared the details on his Facebook page, writing: “As of 3 pm pacific time Angie and I are now Richard and Angela VanGoodall!”
In another Facebook post, he shared photos from their wedding and wrote, “An amazing night day and night last night married to my love with my AGT family attending and we got the pleasure of eating in Malibu on the beach at moonshadows! So blessed and eternally grateful.”
On the September 17 episode of America’s Got Talent, Goodall performed Journey’s “Faithfully.” Afterwards, the crowd went wild as judge Simon Cowell told him, “We all need a hero right now and you are our hero.” Howie Mandel gushed, “I will make a prediction right now: I think you just sang yourself $1 million.”
In an interview with Terre Haute’s WTWO-TV, Goodall explained the touching reason why he sang the tune – it’s his song with Vanoven. “I wanted my journey to be like a bookend,” he explained. “I started with Journey, I’m gonna finish with Journey, close the book.”
In May, Goodall told IndyStar that he started performing at karaoke nights in the ’90s before moving to the contest circuit with local radio stations. That journey took a pause with the pandemic. In June 2021, his wife Patty died of cancer.
“When you’re married for so long and they pass away and you’ve got that void there, your biggest concern is figuring out who you are without them,” he told IndyStar. “And music was the bridge again.”
He started singing again at a bar karaoke night a few months after Patty’s death. Vanoven followed the bar’s Facebook page, which highlighted Goodall, and the two connected and began talking on New Year’s Day 2022. He shared, “and the rest is me and her history.”
