Charges dropped in kidnapping case surrounding possible Shaquille O’Neal sex tape
LOS ANGELES – Charges have been dropped against seven gang members accused of kidnapping a music producer who have claimed to have a sex tape of Shaquille O’Neal.
At the prosecution’s request, a judge dismissed kidnapping, assault and robbery charges Tuesday.
A DA spokesperson says prosecutors believe the alleged victim, ex-gang member Robert Ross, was attacked, but that his credibility as a witness was undermined by his own testimony and behavior outside of court.
Mark Overland, Ross’s attorney in a lawsuit against O’Neal, the recently retired NBA star, says he has confidence in Ross’s credibility.
Ross testified that in 2008, following a business dispute, he falsely told O’Neal he had a sex tape. Ross claims that two weeks later he was attacked by gang members who mentioned O’Neal.
O’Neal denied involvement and wasn’t charged.
Ross has also filed a civil lawsuit against O’Neal and his business partner Mark Stevens, claiming the two were behind the attack. The lawsuit also reportedly accused O’Neal of being behind multiple murders.
