Connor McDavid surprised with a bold message about his performance in the 2024-25 NHL season with the Edmonton Oilers just one week after being crowned 4 Nations Face-Off champion.
Connor McDavid was Team Canada’s hero, scoring the golden goal as the Canadians won the 4 Nations Face-Off against Team USA. A week ago, the Edmonton Oilers forward was in the spotlight after his great performance on the TD Garden ice, but his return to the NHL regular season has not been as easy as he had hoped.
After a standout performance at the 4 Nations, McDavid has seen his offensive production drop off, registering just four shots on goal in his last three games with Edmonton. The Oilers forward has been extremely self-critical and has made no secret of his discomfort.
Standing in front of the press, McDavid was self-critical and sent a message that was strange to hear from his mouth, analyzing his performance in the current season. His statement came as a surprise considering it was only a few days since the historic 4 Nations victory.

“The year hasn’t gone the way I would have loved it to, personally. But we’re not after personal success. I wish I was playing better. I wish I had played better all year. An exciting week last week. But it’s back to reality pretty quick” McDavid admitted, according to Sportsnet.com.

The night of February 27, 2025 has a special component for McDavid as it will be the first time the Oilers will face the Florida Panthers since the 2024 Stanley Cup Final. Back then, the Panthers prevailed in Game 7 to win the first championship in franchise history.
