Stephen Curry fakes forgetting their anniversary… but surprises Ayesha in an unforgettable way

The late spring sun glimmered over San Francisco Bay, bathing the Curry home in a soft golden light. Inside, the familiar sounds of family life filled the air—children’s laughter, the clink of dishes, the comforting hum of a day unfolding. But for Ayesha Curry, today was anything but ordinary. Today was May 30th: her and Stephen’s 15th wedding anniversary.

A milestone like this would usually be marked by flowers, whispers of dinner plans, or at least a knowing smile. But Stephen, the Golden State Warriors’ superstar, had left early for practice with only a quick kiss and a casual, “See you later.” No mention of their anniversary. No secretive glances. Not even a cryptic text.

Stephen Curry Posts Sweet Note to Ayesha Curry for Their Anniversary: 'Still Loving Every Moment of It'

As the hours passed, Ayesha’s hope dimmed. A midday message from Stephen—“Heading to the arena for some extra shots. Don’t wait up if I’m late”—felt like a cold splash of reality. Was he really that distracted? Was their anniversary now just another day in the whirlwind of their busy lives?

She tried to shake it off, pouring her energy into errands, business calls, and her children’s play. But the ache lingered, a quiet disappointment that grew as the day wore on. Even her best friend Sidell’s call—“You doing anything special today?”—only made her smile wanly and reply, “Doesn’t seem like it. Steph’s busy.”

As dusk fell, painting the sky in streaks of tangerine and lavender, Ayesha stood at the window, watching the driveway. She half-expected Stephen to come roaring in, bouquet in hand, ready to sweep her off her feet. But the driveway stayed empty.

She poured herself a glass of wine, the house quiet now as the kids settled in for a movie. Then, her phone buzzed. It was Stephen at last.

“Hey babe, you free to meet me at Mission Dolores Park in about 30 minutes? I could use some fresh air.”

No explanation. No affectionate sign-off. Ayesha hesitated, pride and hope warring within her. But fifteen years of partnership had taught her to trust, even when she didn’t understand. She slipped on a jacket and headed out into the cool San Francisco evening.

The park was quiet, the city lights twinkling in the distance. A street performer’s saxophone played a gentle, melancholy tune as Ayesha parked and texted Stephen: “Here. Where are you?”

“Top of the hill. Come find me.”

She shook her head, a mixture of amusement and annoyance flickering across her face. Always the playful one, even now. She followed the winding path up the hill, memories of their early years together drifting through her mind: late-night walks in Charlotte, their first tiny apartment, the simple joys before fame and fortune.

At the top of the hill, she found… nothing. Just the breathtaking view of the city and a gentle breeze. Then her phone buzzed again.

“Almost there. Close your eyes.”

A reluctant smile tugged at her lips. She closed her eyes, feeling the night air on her skin, her heart pounding with anticipation.

Footsteps approached. “Ayesha,” a gentle voice called. But it wasn’t Stephen. Instead, a young man handed her a bouquet of white peonies—her favorite—and a small card: “Follow the lights.”

A trail of lanterns led deeper into the park. As she walked, the city’s sounds faded, replaced by the rustle of leaves and the distant strum of a guitar. Seated along the path was an elderly woman playing “All of Me” by John Legend—their wedding song. Ayesha’s eyes filled with tears as she continued, heart swelling with hope.

The path opened into a secluded grove, aglow with fairy lights and candles. There, recreated in loving detail, was the tiny Charlotte café where she and Stephen had their first date: checkered tablecloth, mismatched chairs, vintage teacups. And there was Stephen, waiting with a gentle smile.

“Happy anniversary, babe,” he said, arms open.

Ayesha rushed into his embrace, laughter and tears mingling as the weight of the day melted away. “You really had me going,” she whispered, voice trembling with emotion.

Stephen guided her to the table, where her favorite meal awaited, along with a playlist of songs from every chapter of their life together. They toasted quietly, lost in each other’s eyes, the world outside the grove fading to a distant hum.

But the surprises weren’t over. “Come with me,” Stephen said, taking her hand.

He led her to a pavilion decorated with rose petals and fairy lights. In the center stood a large screen, surrounded by their closest family and friends—parents, siblings, teammates, and their three children, all grinning from ear to ear.

A video montage played: grainy photos from their early days, wedding footage, the births of their children, silly home videos, and heartfelt messages from Stephen recorded over the past weeks. Laughter and tears rippled through the crowd as their story unfolded on the screen.

When the video faded, Stephen took center stage. He knelt before Ayesha, opening a velvet box to reveal a delicate gold ring engraved with the words, “Still and always, us.”

“Ayesha,” he said, voice thick with emotion, “fifteen years ago, I promised to love you, to stand by you, to build a life with you. Tonight, I want to renew those vows. Will you marry me again?”

Tears streaming down her face, Ayesha nodded. “Yes, of course. Always.”

Their children ran to hug them, friends and family cheered, and music swelled as Stephen slipped the new ring onto her finger. The night became a blur of laughter, dancing, and champagne toasts under the stars. Someone captured it all on video, and soon the story of Stephen’s unforgettable anniversary surprise swept across social media, inspiring millions with its warmth and authenticity.

As the celebration wound down, Stephen and Ayesha sat together at the replica café table, hands intertwined, hearts full. The city lights shimmered around them, a quiet promise that their love—tested, celebrated, and renewed—would only grow stronger with each passing year.

And as they drove home, the world asleep around them, Ayesha rested her head on Stephen’s shoulder, knowing that this night would live forever in their hearts—a testament to love, playfulness, and the magic of a surprise that was never really forgotten.

Stephen and Ayesha Curry love to talk business.

The NBA superstar, 36, and Sweet July founder, 35, have both taken on major side projects recently, with Ayesha launching her brand’s skincare line and Steph venturing into the world of entertainment and producing.

“Any move that’s going to be made starts in our little internal, two-person circle,” Ayesha tells PEOPLE at her Sweet July Skin pop-up in San Francisco.

The ambitious couple — who welcomed their fourth child, Caius Chai, together in May 2024 — have “a lot” in the works, says Ayesha, and making it all happen alongside her husband keeps their relationship strong.

“It’s so embarrassing…I feel like business talk is foreplay for us,” she says with a laugh. “Like, ‘So what’s going on in your world? What’s going on in yours?’ I love it. We literally bounce off of each other,” adds Ayesha.

As she launches Sweet July’s line of skincare — which was “how Sweet July actually started,” she says — Ayesha is “so grateful” for the support from her husband. “I’d say he’s the biggest supporter for me,” the mother of four tells PEOPLE.

“I have terrible imposter syndrome, and he is always there to encourage me, remind me, uplift me, me, and be like, ‘Hey, what do you need today?’ So from that perspective, he’s always there and kind of my sounding board.”

The Golden State Warriors star is so supportive of his wife that he even lets her experiment with her skincare products on him. “He’s always willing to try all of the products,” says Ayesha.

“But I’ll be honest, he’s not like, a face-washing kind of guy,” she teases.

Steph is more of a “splash water on my face kind of guy,” his wife shares, “But he will let me give him a facial, so that’s all that matters,” she laughs.

Ayesha’s inspiration for Sweet July’s skincare line, an idea that first came to her in 2019, comes from her family roots in Jamaica. “One of the biggest things that people bring over and one of the biggest imports is the Blue Mountain Coffee,” Ayesha explains, “and so I wanted to highlight that. I know caffeine works under the eyes for the skin.”

“I felt like what you put in your body you can put on your body, and there has to be some sort of efficacy from all of these beautiful ingredients that come from where my family’s from in Jamaica, and so we started to do a deep dive and quickly realized there are a lot of ingredients that aren’t mass market right now that are really effective for the skin.”

Sweet July was inspired by finding “the small joys in life,” says Ayesha. “It’s all really just coming from a place of finding the little things that make you happy, finding gratitude in that to carry you through.”

“The pandemic really led us to realize we’ve got to find ways to make ourselves happy with your everyday cup of coffee, the way you take a bath, the way you wash your face, having gratitude, grounding yourself, being present in those moments. It’s transformative.”
