Todd Chrisley Jokes He Considered Going Back to Prison After Seeing Wife Julie’s Post-Incarceration Look

Todd Chrisley, known for his unfiltered candor on reality TV, didn’t hold back when discussing his first impression of wife Julie Chrisley after her release from prison. On the latest episode of their “Chrisley Confessions” podcast, Todd revealed that he was initially “turned off” by Julie’s appearance, even joking that he “started thinking about going back” to prison.

“I’m not going to lie. When I first saw you when I got out of that car, I started thinking about going back,” Todd told Julie during the episode. “But then I thought, let me embrace this. This is a moment.”

Julie, 55, was visibly shocked by her husband’s honesty, responding, “Are you kidding me, right now?” Todd went on to explain his reaction, saying, “It was a rough moment because I had never seen you dark in my life.”

Julie reminded him that her drastic change in appearance wasn’t by choice. “Well, I know that, Todd, but I didn’t have any choice,” she replied.

The Chrisleys, stars of “Chrisley Knows Best,” were released from federal prison in May after being pardoned by President Trump. They had served just over two years of their sentences for fraud and tax evasion. Julie’s most noticeable transformation during her time behind bars was her hair, which shifted from her signature blonde to a darker brown with gray roots.

Addressing the viral photo of her post-prison look, Julie admitted on the podcast, “Was there a horrible picture that came out of me? Yes, but the way I flip that is, ‘Look at me now!’ Now, people think I look even better because that horrible picture was out there to begin with.”

Todd, however, couldn’t resist poking fun a bit more. “I will say, you set the bar low, you had nowhere to go but up,” he quipped. Julie responded, “Now that wasn’t very nice,” but Todd doubled down, “I’m just trying to be honest. That’s why we have ‘Chrisley Confessions 2.0.’”

Julie went on to explain the reason behind her hair transformation. While in prison, she experimented with box dye after a fellow inmate, Melissa—who had salon experience and helped her with highlights—was released just months into Julie’s sentence. Left to her own devices, Julie eventually decided to let her hair go natural.

“I’ll admit, I looked crazy,” Julie confessed. “But now, see, people think when they see me, ‘Oh, my God, you look so good!’ and I’m thinking, ‘Yeah, because you saw that picture of me looking crazy.’”

Despite Todd’s playful jabs, Julie used the episode to dispel any rumors about trouble in their marriage. “We’re 30 years in now… so five years from now, 10 years from now, whatever. We’re still going to be together. So guess what? I don’t really care,” she asserted.
