Why did Simone Biles take a shot at former U.S. women’s gymnastics teammate MyKayla Skinner?
It’s now clear that Simone Biles and her teammates are as good as it gets in gymnastics, which is why her answer to a former teammate’s critique is perfect.
The U.S. women’s gymnastics team made history on Tuesday as they took the gold medal in the team finals at the Olympic Games in Paris. It was the culmination of an impressive effort across multiple events by a group of athletes who clearly know how to work together. With that in mind, it’s hard to understand how a former member of the team could have found fault with the group. Of course, that may be why she’s no longer a member.
Simone Biles claps back
On Tuesday, Simone Biles confirmed once again why many consider her to be the greatest gymnast in U.S. history, winning her fifth Olympic gold medal while leading the U.S. women’s gymnastics team to a dominant victory in the team finals in Paris. Needless to say, it was a big moment for Biles and Co. who have now truly established themselves as legends of the sport. Indeed, joy was on full display in the post-victory press conference when Biles and her teammates unveiled their new and somewhat cheeky nickname for the team, following in the long tradition of U.S. women’s gymnastic teams that have done the same.
Yet, there was also a moment that came later when Biles took a moment away from the festivities to address something that she clearly took issue with, namely the critique of her former U.S. gymnastics teammate, MyKayla Skinner who recently questioned the work ethic of this current team. In a post on social media, Biles shared a few photos of the team celebrating Tuesday’s win and wrote a caption that was clearly sprinkled with a touch of sarcasm: “lack of talent, lazy, Olympic champions.”
Regarding Skinner’s actual critique about the team, this is what she had to say previously: “Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and the depth just isn’t like what it used to be. Just notice like, I mean, obviously a lot of girls don’t work as hard. The girls just don’t have the work ethic.” Whether you agree with Skinner or not, it seems to us that the proof is in the pudding which is to say, the Americans are now gold medalists i.e., they clearly have no problems with work ethic.
