Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has clapped back at Skip Bayless after the former ESPN and FS1 host referred to her as a “clout chaser.”
The 29-year-old has emerged as one of the WNBA’s most popular players, thanks to her emergence as Caitlin Clark’s enforcer. It all started when Sophie Cunningham retaliated against Jacy Sheldon in a June 17 game after the latter poked Clark in the eye.
Cunningham’s actions in that game led to a skirmish that led to her, Sheldon and Lindsay Allen all getting ejected. Cunningham was upset with the way opposing defenses were roughing up Caitlin Clark without getting called for fouls, so she decided to take matters into her own hands.
Now a media darling, Sophie Cunningham has entered a feud with Skip Bayless, who’s no stranger to such things.
On a new edition of “The Skip Bayless Show” posted last week, Bayless called Cunningham a “clout chaser.” Bayless said Cunningham “took advantage of” Clark’s fame and she “benefitted from Caitlin Clark’s stranger and stranger second season.”

Sophie Cunningham Responds To Skip Bayless
On the latest episode of “Show Me Something” podcast that she co-hosts with West Wilson, the Fever fan favorite fired back at Bayless and made fun of the low ratings he got in his rant against her:
“I’ve never met you, I’ve actually never really listened to you…Someone sent it to me and I was like ‘What is this?’ He’s calling me a clout chaser? Dude, you’re the one who has my name plastered all over your freaking YouTube that had 36 views, like get out of here.”

Unfortunately, Sophie Cunningham’s dramatic 2025 season ended last month when she suffered a season-ending MCL tear. In 30 games with the Fever, she averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game while shooting a career-high 46.9 percent from the field.
Indiana has been decimated by injuries this year, with Clark missing 28 games after her historic rookie season. Last month, guards Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald were ruled out for the year with a torn ACL and a broken foot in the bone, respectively.
