Empire actor Bryshere Gray will reportedly spend 10 days in jail after pleading guilty to felony aggravated assault for throttling his wife until she passed out.

Gray, 27, who played Hakeem Lyon on the Fox TV series, entered a guilty plea in his domestic violence case, according to legal documents obtained by TMZ.

Gray was arrested on domestic violence charges in July last year after a woman said her husband had assaulted her for ‘several hours’.

Gray then barricaded himself into his home in Goodyear, Arizona, overnight before his arrest.

Police said the woman had multiple visible injuries on her body and that she had said Gray had throttled her at one point, leading to her temporarily losing consciousness.

The actor has been sentenced to 10 days in a county jail and three years probation as part of his plea agreement, the online publication reported.

He will reportedly not be allowed to consume illegal drugs and will have to submit to drugs and alcohol testing during his probation. He must also pay restitution to his victim.

Gray, also known by the stage name Yazz the Greatest, will reportedly enroll in a domestic violence offender treatment program and must check in with his probation officer within 72 hours of contact from law enforcement.

He will not be allowed to possess any kind of firearm during his probation, and will need written approval from police to associate with anyone who has a criminal record.

MailOnline has contacted Goodyear Police and Goodyear Municipal Court for comment.

Gray was arrested on domestic violence charges in July last year after barricading himself into his home in Goodyear, Arizona, overnight when police tried to speak to him.

A woman had flagged down a passerby at another gas station, stating that ‘she had been assaulted at her Goodyear home for the last several hours by her husband,’ according to the police report obtained by Fox 10 at the time.

The passerby then drove the woman – who was not formally named at the time – to the Circle K and called 911, at which point the woman identified Gray as her husband.

Police said the victim had multiple visible injuries on her body and that she had said Gray had strangled her at one point, leading to her temporarily losing consciousness.

She was taken to the hospital where she was treated for her injuries and released.

Upon arriving at their home later, police said that Gray refused to exit the property and barricaded himself inside.

Police called Goodyear SWAT and Crisis Negotiations to the scene, AZ Family reported at the time.

Gray barricaded himself inside the house overnight, eventually surrendering himself to authorities without incident at about 7am the following day.

Gray was then arrested and booked into jail. He was taken into custody and booked into the Maricopa County Jail.

Gray isn’t the only Empire cast member who has been facing legal troubles, as his co-star Jussie Smollett has been charged with multiple felonies related to allegedly faking being the victim of a hate crime in Chicago in February 2019.

In September, the actor, 38, maintained his innocence and called the case ‘frustrating’, saying he does not think it will be finished soon.

Speaking for the first time since February 2019, in an interview with author and academic Marc Lamont Hill, 41, the former Empire star revealed his lawyers had filed a motion against his indictment – which was rejected by Illinois Supreme Court.

‘It’s been beyond frustrating, and I certainly am not going rogue,’ he said about publicly commenting on the case.

‘I’m still taking the advice of my attorneys and everything like that, but I don’t really see, honestly, what staying quiet has really done, like, where it has gotten me…. It’s so much bigger than me.’

Smollett, an openly gay Black actor, was originally indicted in March 2019 with 16 counts of disorderly conduct for allegedly filing a false report claiming two men attacked him on January 29, 2019, while also making racist and homophobic slurs.

He pleaded not guilty to allegations that he lied to police about the incident, which authorities later claimed he had staged with two acquaintances to draw attention to himself.

These were later dropped by the office of Cook County State’s Attorney.

In February, Smollett pleaded not guilty to a six-count indictment which revived the disorderly conduct allegations previously filed and then dropped in the case.

Meanwhile, a hearing has been scheduled for July 14 to look into whether one of Smollett’s lawyers had contacted with the two brothers who were allegedly paid to stage the phony crime, according to Chicago Sun Times.

Smollett has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
