A Philadelphia Eagles supporter called out the Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, mayor for being a Dallas Cowboys fan during a down meeting.

Ed Brown has served as the mayor of Upper Darby since January 2024, becoming the first black mayor in the city’s history. Brown, a Democrat, defeated incumbent and Republican Brian Burke.

Upper Darby Township has a population of just over 85,000 and is roughly nine miles east of Philadelphia. Brown may serve a large number of Eagles fans, but he’s actually a supporter of the NFC East rival Cowboys.

During a town meeting, an Eagles fan stepped up to the podium and ripped Brown (and the Cowboys) for being a supporter of America’s Team:

“This is what happens, guys — residents of Upper Darby Township — when you elect a Cowboys fan to your government. Twenty-nine years of losing for this team. What do you expect from the leadership?

“This is a Cowboys fan. This guy follows the Cowboys. We’re talking about the Cowboy…not a championship contender, not a championship contender. We’re talking about the Cowboys.”

Being a mayor and a fan of a sports team are two different things, but we’re sure the ultra-passionate Philadelphia fans who saw this clip will be on the man’s side. And hey, congrats to him on his 15-or-so minutes of fame!

In a moment that quickly went viral, a passionate Philadelphia Eagles fan went head-to-head with a Pennsylvania mayor during a recent town meeting, ruthlessly confronting the mayor for his allegiance to the Dallas Cowboys. The heated exchange, which unfolded in front of the mayor and a room full of residents, quickly became the talk of social media as fans of both teams weighed in on the tense confrontation.

The incident occurred during a routine public meeting in a small Pennsylvania town, where the mayor, who has been a long-time supporter of the Cowboys, was speaking about various local issues. However, the situation took a dramatic turn when an outspoken Eagles fan, clearly frustrated by the mayor’s allegiance to the rival team, stood up and began to call out the mayor for supporting the Cowboys, a franchise that has long been a thorn in the side of Philadelphia sports fans.

“Are you serious?” the Eagles fan, visibly angry, shouted during the meeting. “You’re the mayor of a town that’s supposed to support local pride, and you’re out here reppin’ the Cowboys?!” The comment was met with a mix of laughter, applause, and stunned silence from other meeting attendees, many of whom were apparently in agreement with the Eagles fan.

The Eagles-Cowboys rivalry is one of the most intense in the NFL, with both fanbases passionately supporting their respective teams, often going to great lengths to mock, ridicule, and even challenge one another. In the case of this town meeting, the clash between the Eagles fan and the mayor took on an extra layer of personal intensity, as the fan seemed to view the mayor’s support for the Cowboys as an unforgivable act of betrayal.

“You’re supposed to be a leader in our community,” the Eagles fan continued, not holding back. “How are we supposed to trust a mayor who doesn’t even have the decency to back the team that represents Pennsylvania? The Cowboys?! C’mon!” The fan’s words were met with a few chuckles from the crowd, though the mayor, clearly taken aback by the outburst, tried to respond calmly.

In a somewhat tongue-in-cheek response, the mayor, who had clearly been caught off guard by the passionate outburst, shrugged and joked, “Well, I can’t help it if I like the Cowboys. Someone’s got to represent America’s Team around here!” However, his attempt at humor didn’t diffuse the situation, as the Eagles fan pressed on, further calling out the mayor for his questionable football loyalty.

“I’m sure you’re a great guy and all, but you can’t go around claiming to represent Pennsylvania and root for a team that everyone here hates. We’re talking about the Cowboys!” the fan fired back. “I don’t care if you’re a mayor or not, you gotta pick a side!”

The exchange left the room buzzing with energy, with many in the crowd appearing to side with the Eagles fan. The debate between the two men seemed to symbolize the broader, deep-seated rivalry between the Eagles and Cowboys—two of the most storied franchises in NFL history, and two fanbases that share an almost unrivaled animosity toward one another.

As the meeting went on, the tension slowly eased, and the mayor continued with the discussion, though it was clear that the topic of football loyalty had left a lasting impression. The town meeting ended shortly thereafter, but not before local media outlets quickly picked up on the now-infamous exchange, with clips of the confrontation spreading across social media platforms.

For the Eagles fan, the confrontation was a victorious moment—a chance to defend his beloved team and make his frustration with the mayor’s loyalty known. For the mayor, however, it was an uncomfortable reminder that in the world of passionate sports rivalries, there is little room for compromise when it comes to supporting the Eagles and the Cowboys.

While some onlookers may have found the exchange entertaining, others weighed in with mixed opinions, questioning whether the public forum was the right place for such a confrontation. Regardless, the event has added another chapter to the storied rivalry between the Eagles and Cowboys, proving once again that when it comes to football, the stakes are always high—whether it’s on the field or in a local town meeting.

As the story continues to make the rounds, fans of both teams will no doubt keep their eyes on how this rivalry plays out in the coming seasons. For now, the mayor’s allegiance to the Cowboys and the Eagles fan’s spirited defense of his team will undoubtedly remain a talking point in the town for some time to come.
