The NFL has issued a warning to all of their players following a series of robberies targeting the Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, as well as stars of the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves and Milwaukee Bucks.
The quarterback and tight end had their homes broken into on the same weekend they took on the New Orleans Saints in October whilst the NBA stars suffered their thefts at a similar time, as well as another unnamed football star.
It’s thought the burglaries aimed to target the championship-winning rings of the basketball and football players and the FBI are also investigating the matter, suspecting the offenses could be connected to a South American crime syndicate.
As a result, the NFL are taking no chances according to Tom Pelissero, as they issue a red alert to tell their players to remain vigilant.
“It’s legit,” an insider told Pelissero. “It’s a transnational crime ring.
“And over the last three weeks, they’ve focused on NBA and NFL players, and it’s all over the country.”
Who has been robbed?
“Obviously, it’s frustrating,” Mahomes said of the theft. “It’s disappointing. Obviously something that you don’t want to have happen to really anybody. But obviously yourself.”
That follows the Bucks’ Bobby Portis reporting he lost “most of his prized possessions” whilst competing on court, whilst the Timberwolves’ Mike Conley Jr. suffered a similar fate, showing the highly-organized operation by the bandits, who know when the stars will and won’t be home.
Dots were connected when Wisconsin’s River Hills law enforcement recognized similarities in the thefts and confirmed them with Minnesota and Kansas City police, before taking the matter up with the FBI.
