Chiefs HC Andy Reid & QB Mahomes PRAISE KC Chiefs 32nd Draft pick OT Josh Simmons”

The Kansas City Chiefs’ war room was buzzing with excitement as the final pick of the first round approached. With the 32nd overall selection, the Chiefs announced their choice: offensive tackle Josh Simmons. The moment his name was called, social media lit up with reactions, but none were more enthusiastic than those from within the Chiefs organization itself.

At the post-draft press conference, Head Coach Andy Reid was the first to address the media. “We’re thrilled to bring Josh Simmons into the Chiefs family,” Reid declared, a wide smile on his face. “He’s got the size, the athleticism, and most importantly, the work ethic we look for. We believe he can come in and make an impact right away.”

Reporters pressed Reid for more details on what stood out about Josh. “He’s incredibly coachable,” Reid explained. “He’s faced some tough competition in college and handled it with maturity. Our scouts loved his footwork and his ability to adjust on the fly—two things you need to succeed at this level.”

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who had watched the draft unfold from his home, took to social media moments after the pick. “Let’s go!! Welcome to KC, Josh Simmons!” Mahomes tweeted, adding a highlight reel of Simmons dominating defenders. Later, during a virtual interview, Mahomes elaborated: “I’m excited to work with Josh. Protecting the quarterback is never easy, but watching his tape, you can see he’s got the skills and the fire. Can’t wait to get to work with him.”

The following day, Simmons arrived in Kansas City for his introductory press conference. He was greeted by a swarm of reporters and a call from Mahomes himself. “Hey, man, you ready to get after it?” Mahomes joked, making Simmons laugh and easing some of the rookie’s nerves.

Coach Reid and Mahomes both made time to meet Simmons in person at the Chiefs’ training facility. They walked him through the locker room, introduced him to key staff, and shared stories of their own first days with the team. Simmons listened intently, soaking in advice and encouragement.

Throughout rookie minicamp, Reid kept a close eye on Simmons, offering pointers and praise in equal measure. Mahomes, meanwhile, made sure to include Simmons in team drills and off-field bonding activities. The chemistry was immediate—Simmons’ dedication and positive attitude quickly earned the respect of his coaches and teammates.

As training camp progressed, the praise from both Coach Reid and Mahomes only grew louder. “Josh is already showing why he was our pick,” Reid told reporters. “He’s learning fast and fitting right in.” Mahomes echoed the sentiment: “He’s got our back, and we’ve got his. Big things ahead for this kid.”

For Josh Simmons, the journey had just begun, but with the support of his head coach and star quarterback, he was ready to rise to the challenge—eager to prove that the Chiefs’ faith in him was well-placed.
