Patrick Mahomes Sr. was arrested in February in Smith County, just days before his son played in the Super Bowl.
Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes, pleaded guilty Tuesday to his third charge of driving while intoxicated, records show.
Records in Smith County, Texas, showed he entered his plea Tuesday.
Mahomes Sr.’s attorney, Joseph D. Murphy, said in a statement: “Today, Mr. Mahomes entered a guilty plea in his case pursuant to a written plea agreement.”
“Our client is now living a sober life, and we believe that the steps he has taken to better his life helped us achieve a plea recommendation for probation,” Murphy said.
In a plea deal, Mahomes Sr. will serve five years of probation with one year of intense supervision, NBC affiliate KETK of Tyler, Texas, reported.
It was Mahomes Sr.’s third DWI arrest.
He was arrested in 2018, and the next year he was sentenced to 40 days in jail that would be served on weekends, according to Smith County court records.
He was arrested in September 2008 in South Dakota, District Judge Kerry Russell said in court on Tuesday, KETK reported.
His sentencing is scheduled for Sept.
Mahomes Sr.’s was arrested in February just days before his son led the Chiefs to a championship for the third time in the Super Bowl at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Mahomes Sr. had a career in sports much like his son. He was a pitcher in Major League Baseball for 11 seasons, spending the first half of his career with the Minnesota Twins before bouncing around with other teams.
