Patrick Mahomes Hints at Break Amid Comments on Chiefs’ Future

Patrick Mahomes makes clear statement over Kansas City Chiefs future and drops major hint on taking break

Mahomes did reveal what will have to happen in order for him to start on Saturday

PATRICK Mahomes has made a strong statement about the Kansas City Chiefs’ main goal for the rest of the regular season.

The 29-year-old NFL star quarterback’s latest remark comes as he is attempting to play in Week 16 after suffering a mild high-ankle sprain during the win against the Cleveland Browns over the weekend.

Mahomes and the Chiefs have just three games left to try to clinch the No. 1 seed which would secure a first-round postseason bye and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

The three-time Super Bowl MVP’s injury comes at a brutal time, however, for Kansas City, who will have a short week to prepare to play the Houston Texans on Saturday.

Mahomes did participate fully in practice on Tuesday and made it known that he wants to win these next few games to get much-needed rest in January before potentially playing in the divisional round of the playoffs.

“With the playoffs being three weeks away, [if] you go out and win two games, [then] you’re going to have a long break. Even if you’re waiting to play that [playoff] game, [then] you’re going to have an extended amount of time,” he told reporters after Tuesday’s practice, per KC Star’s Vahe Gregorian.

“It’s just as important to get healthy [as] it is to get that No. 1 seed.

“Get through these games and win these games against two great opponents.

“It will give you some momentum going into the playoffs and hopefully give you a break at the end.”

Mahomes did add that when it comes to potentially playing on Saturday, he said, “If I feel like I can play and go out there and win a football game, I’ll play.”

The Chiefs will have to play three games in 10 days.

They faced the Browns on December 15, will take on the Texans on Saturday, and then square off against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day.

Kansas City can clinch the top AFC spot with two victories in their last three games.

Mahomes was replaced by Carson Wentz after his injury in the fourth quarter of the 21-7 win in Week 15.

Wentz completed both of his completions for 20 yards.

If Mahomes can’t play this weekend, Reid seems to have confidence in his team if Wentz gets the start.

“We have full confidence in Carson,” Reid said on Tuesday.

“If he has to step in and play, then I think everybody, coaches and players, has full confidence that he can go in and do a nice job.

“He’s started in the league and been successful.

“He’s got a great feel for this offense. Very smart, big arm. I like the way he carries himself.

“I like everything about him. He should be starting in this league somewhere, so he’s a heck of a player.”
