On Thursday, September 5, Morgan took to social media to announce her decision to retire. It was an emotional moment for the two-time World Cup winner, who posted a four-and-a-half-minute video explaining her decision to call time on her decorated career.

Unsurprisingly, the video quickly went viral. As of writing, the announcement has amassed 3.4 million views on X, formerly Twitter, eight hours after it was posted. As a show of her support, Biles reposted Morgan’s video on X. Simone did not have any caption for her post, but it is clear that she is standing behind her fellow American athlete here. Morgan, who captained the United States national team with Carli Lloyd and Megan Rapinoe between 2018 and 2020, has officially ended what has been an illustrious career. The National Women’s Soccer League (NSWL) icon is a two-time Olympic medalist. She was also part of the United States’ World Cup-winning squads in 2015 and 2019.

At 27, Biles has long reached retirement age for women’s gymnastics, but her three gold medals from the 2024 Paris Olympics are living proof that she still remains the most dominant athlete in the sport. In fact, Biles has already hinted at participating in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, which will potentially be her fourth Summer Games stint.
