Brad Marchand tried to choke Ottawa Senators’ Nick Cousins in January 2025
Back in January 2025, the Boston Bruins were playing a match against the Ottawa Senators when suddenly Brad Marchand was spotted doing the unthinkable. In videos that went viral, Brad Marchand was seen taking off his gloves and putting his hand around the Ottawa Senators’ Nick Cousins. It seemed like Brad Marchand was trying to choke Nick Cousins.
A ref had to intervene and took Brad Marchand away from Nick Cousins, but even then, once the former captain of the Boston Bruins let go of Cousins’ neck, he was seen holding on to his jersey. This action of Brad Marchand’s had caused a huge uproar among fans and analysts.
Many fans demanded strict action against Brad Marchand for trying to choke Nick Cousins but nothing really happened. NHL has chosen not to comment on the matter and neither Brad Marchand nor Nick Cousins addressed the controversy in public.
There have been speculations among fans that Brad Marchand is always “let off easily” by the NHL. This argument mostly comes from the fact that a few years ago, Brad Marchand used to lick and kiss his opponent’s face on the ice.
This had been happening since 2014 when Brad Marchand started kissing his opponent’s face/ But it was only in 2018 when Brad Marchand licked Ryan Callahan’s face that the NHL was forced to take action against him.
As a result, the NHL had issued a statement that the league decided to put Brad Marchand on notice. Even the star player opened up about not repeating his mistakes again.
Currently, fans are waiting for Brad Marchand to play a match against the team he called “home” for 16 years, the Boston Bruins. The star player is recovering from an injury and missed the first match against the Boston Bruins after joining the Florida Panthers.
