Ousmane Dembele played alongside Lionel Messi at Barcelona from 2017 to 2021. During that time, the French star had the opportunity to witness firsthand the extraordinary talent of the man dubbed the “GOAT” of world football.

“I don’t know Michael Jordan, but after watching The Last Dance, I thought it was incredible. It’s hard to believe that there was no social media back then, but he was able to transcend all generational boundaries. What he did with the Chicago Bulls was truly great,” Dembele shared.
“I grew up watching Barcelona, so of course Leo Messi. For me, he is the greatest. Messi is an inspiration, a unique player. I am very proud to have played with him.”
Dembele has been a key player in PSG’s run to the 2024/25 Champions League title and is tipped to win his first Ballon d’Or. If Paris Saint-Germain progress further in the 2025 Club World Cup, Dembele could be reunited with Messi, who plays for Inter Miami, in the prestigious tournament later this year.
In the US team’s jersey, Messi continues to inspire millions of fans around the world, just like Michael Jordan did in the world of basketball.
