HOT NEWS..! Jimmy Kimmel Says ‘There’s No Way’ Colbert Is Losing CBS $40 Million a Year: ‘It’s Just Ridiculous’

Jimmy Kimmel is calling into question CBS’s claim that financial losses led to the cancellation of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” arguing that the reported numbers simply don’t add up.

Appearing on SiriusXM’s “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” podcast this week, the ABC late night host was asked by Ted Danson about the surprise cancellation of Colbert’s show. While Danson admitted the question might be better directed at Colbert himself, he was curious about Kimmel’s perspective on the network’s decision.

Kimmel didn’t mince words. “We don’t know for sure, but I do know what I do know for sure is that some of the information that has been released by the people who let him go can’t possibly be true,” Kimmel said. “There’s no way he’s losing $40 million a year.”

“It Doesn’t Make Any Sense”

Kimmel, who has years of experience hosting and producing late night television, was adamant that the financial figures cited by CBS don’t reflect the reality of how these shows operate. “There’s no way it’s even close to that. I know how the finances of late night television shows work and it’s just ridiculous,” he continued. “It doesn’t make any sense at all. So, when you hear things that are obviously lies, you have to assume that there are more lies behind it, right? And that’s what I think.”

He added that if his own show were losing $40 million a year, “they would have sent everyone home already.” Kimmel previously discussed his own show’s budget at the Bloomberg Screen Time Conference, emphasizing that late night programs don’t need to be as expensive as many believe.

The Real Story Remains Unclear

While CBS has maintained that Colbert’s exit was purely a financial decision, Kimmel speculated that the full story may never come out. He suggested that the explanation given by the network doesn’t hold water, and that there may be other factors at play.

Conclusion

Kimmel’s comments have sparked further debate about the economics of late night television and the transparency of network decisions. As fans and industry insiders continue to question CBS’s reasoning, the true circumstances behind Colbert’s departure remain shrouded in mystery.
