Edmonton Oilers suffer unacceptable loss to the Anaheim Ducks
The Edmonton Oilers are coming off arguably their worst performance of the season, losing to the Anaheim Ducks by a score of 5-3.
Well folks, despite a solid performance on the power play, the Edmonton Oilers were severely outplayed 5v5, being decisively outshot by the Ducks 32/22.
Calvin Pickard also had a respectable performance between the pipes, with his best being showcased in the 2nd period, but a late goal by former Edmonton Oiler Ryan Strome was the deciding factor in this game.
While the Edmonton Oilers were undoubtedly exhausted from their matchup from the Kings the day before, the Oilers looked disconnected and unmotivated the entire 60 minutes of play.
I think it’s safe to say that the power play and Calvin Pickard were the only reasons the Edmonton Oilers had a true fighting chance in this game.
Personally, I think were starting to see that the Edmonton Oilers don’t have a true second line.
Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch made the decision to stack the first line by putting Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl together, but no depth forward has truly stepped up as a dependable 5th or 6th forward.
While Viktor Arvidsson is slowly starting to show glimpses of offensive brilliance, forward Jeff Skinner was a healthy scratch, and Vasily Podkolzin isnt a top 6 point producer regardless of his work ethic.
Overall, not a good weekend by the Oilers. Fans witnessed a mundane game in LA yesterday, and then a generally awful performance in Anaheim today.
To add insult to injury, the Oilers moms were all in attendance this weekend, and the team couldn’t scrape together a win for them. Let’s hope the annual Father’s trip will produce better results.
