Shaquille O’Neal is one of the most iconic players in NBA history. His overwhelming physical presence made him a dominant force on the court. Shaq thrived in one of the league’s most physical eras. Over the years, he has often shared his views on how the game has evolved. Recently, with LeBron James still performing at an elite level well into his early forties, O’Neal offered his thoughts on what drives LeBron’s remarkable longevity in today’s NBA.

“It’s less physical, and he’s always done this (running around) his whole career; he’s never really done that (throwing elbows)…The fact that it’s less physical definitely helps him. But he’s always taken care of his body; he’s always played at a certain level, and you asked what are you doing it for,” stated Shaquille O’Neal.

Shaquille O’Neal was not trying to downplay LeBron James’ NBA achievements. Instead, he aimed to highlight the differences in playing styles between eras. The modern game demands less physicality than the era Shaq once dominated. Despite those differences, LeBron’s accomplishments remain remarkable. Competing at an elite level for decades while consistently ranking among the league’s best is no easy feat.

LeBron continues to defy age, breaking records while performing at an MVP-caliber level. His dedication to body maintenance and skill refinement remains stronger than ever. This season, he is averaging 25 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 8.5 assists per game.

NBA veteran LeBron James remains indispensable for the Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers were enjoying one of their best stretches of the season. Then, LeBron James’ injury against the Boston Celtics changed everything. The Lakers’ impressive winning streak ended, followed by four consecutive losses. Those defeats dropped them to fifth place in the Western Conference.

Despite his age, LeBron’s presence brought crucial structure to the team. His absence disrupted the roster and proved difficult to overcome. However, the Lakers managed to bounce back with two straight wins, climbing to fourth place in the Western Conference. While the team regained momentum, it became clear that LeBron’s impact remains vital. His absence left a void that wasn’t easy to fill.
