The gymnastics GOAT, Simone Biles, has always had the steadfast support of her sister, Adria Biles. Adria has consistently highlighted that Simone’s greatness goes beyond her incredible talent. When athletes achieve remarkable feats, their families often share in the glory and the struggles. As Simone celebrated another historic win at the Paris Olympics, her family, including Adria, cheered her on from the stands.

But Adria, who understands the rigorous demands of gymnastics, recently opened up about the challenges Simone also faced, including the harsh online criticism. Despite the brutal comments, the steadfast support from her family ensured Simone felt their backing every step of the way. In a heartfelt interview on YouTube with Chris Osmond on August 28, Adria Biles shared the emotional challenges Simone faced between the Tokyo Olympics and the lead-up to the Paris Olympics.
Simone endured intense criticism during the Tokyo Olympics after withdrawing from two events to prioritize her mental health. She revealed she was experiencing the “twisties,” affecting her spatial awareness. Critics harshly labeled her a “childish national embarrassment” and “weak.” Adria shared the pain of watching Simone struggle under this weight, saying, “I know it was really hard. She’s really hard on herself, so it was tough watching her go through that.”
She added, “And also, what people had to say—people are so brutal on the internet.” Adria’s voice wavered as she continued, “it’s so crazy to me that somebody you’ve never met, you can just say these horrible things to them.” She concluded, “I’m sure that took a toll on her.” The worst part? Simone faced this pivotal moment of her career alone!

Simone Biles dealt with all this in Tokyo 2021, where COVID-19 restrictions prevented her family from being in Japan. Adria sensed something was wrong from afar. “I just had bad vibes. Like I was just weirded out,” she said. She was taken aback when Simone called to inform the family of her decision.
Criticism poured in, labeling Simone as the “quitter of the year,” but her family stood firm. “I don’t want you going out there if you’re not in a good place,” her mother, Nellie Biles, told her. “You don’t need to go out there and hurt yourself. That’s just not right.” Adria also provided resolute support, helping Simone navigate these tough times.
Today, Simone stands tall, using her experiences to be a light for others. Jordan, who has a mentor-like bond with Simone, recently shared from her WCC World Champions Centre training that she’ll be joining Simone on the Gold Over America Tour, hitting 30 cities from September to November. This show of support follows a medal controversy, where Simone stepped up as the ultimate bestie, backing Jordan through every twist and turn!
Simone Biles beats online hate with support from her bestie and her husband
Simone Biles has always kept it real about her mental health struggles, whether it’s childhood trauma or dealing with online trolls. She’s not here for the “couch judging and coaching” and rises above it all, knowing her critics can’t hold a candle to her skills on the mat. Now, she’s using that strength to support those she cares about, including her husband, Jonathan Owens, and best friend, Jordan Chiles.
When Jordan hit a rough patch at the Paris Olympics, Simone was her cheerleader in the digital realm. She kept in touch with Jordan through calls and texts, sending her uplifting messages and funny posts to brighten her day. “I’ve sent her little things,” Simone said, “like a picture of girls guarding a medal, which I thought was the cutest.” Her social media shoutout, “Keep your chin up Olympic champ! We love you!” was just the kind of boost Jordan needed.
