Patrick Mahomes Uses Daughter’s Name To Call Out Travis Kelce
The Kansas City Chiefs continue to find ways to win. They remain undefeated after five weeks of football, as they took down the New Orleans Saints at home on Monday evening, 26-13.
The Chiefs taking care of business at home, however, was probably not more surprising than what tight end Travis Kelce did during a drive in the second quarter. After Kelce caught a pass from Patrick Mahomes on a third-and-22 situation, the tight end tossed the ball to running back Samaje Perine for a lateral that surprised everyone watching the game.
Perine fell short of gaining a first down but the Chiefs still finished that drive with a field goal. After the game, Mahomes told reporters that he reminded Kelce to just try to get within field-goal range, but his teammate clearly had another thing in mind. “It’s like I’m talking to Sterling,” Mahomes said, per Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star. Sterling, of course, is Mahomes’ three-year-old daughter. Kelce’s bold move against the Saints, however, isn’t exactly an alien concept for the Chiefs. “We do it every day in practice,” Reid said when asked during the broadcast about Kelce’s lateral pass. The 5-0 Chiefs will take a much-deserved rest with a Week 6 bye before getting back to work on Oct. 20 for a Super Bowl rematch against the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara.
