“I’m waiting for LeBron to cut his s—t” – Hip-hop legend claims Michael Jordan shaved his head because of him
Somehow, someone thought the rapper could be telling the truth about Jordan.
The great Michael Jordan has become an influential figure not only in sports but also in the world of hip-hop. However, Fredro Starr, a founding member of the New York-based rap group Onyx, argued that it was the other way around. In fact, Starr boldly claimed that MJ shaved his head because of Onyx.
For context, Onyx was a legendary hip-hop group famous for its signature bald heads. In a telling interview back in 2023, Starr discussed the group’s influence on society and claimed that some of the most famous celebrities in the world copied their hairstyle, including Jordan.
To this day, Starr is still proudly rocking Onyx’s iconic bald look. He even pleaded for other big-name NBA personalities, specifically LeBron James, to follow Jordan and entirely shave their heads.
“Ask Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan cut his head bald because of us,” Starr confidently declared. “Michael Jordan cut his hair bald because of Onyx. Do the knowledge, ni**a. I know for a fact. What year did Michael Jordan cut his head bald? We’re responsible for Michael Jordan [shaving his head bald]. The whole ‘Fab Five’ [too]. Jalen Rose, [Chris] Webber, all them ni**as… They cut they head bald cause of us.”
“I’m waiting for LeBron to cut his s**t, man,” he added. “Snoop Dogg, too. Let it go, my n**ga… Stephen A. Smith. [A] lot of n**gas need to come to the dark side, man.”
Somehow, Onyx got a witness for his MJ claim
Starr failed to provide hard evidence to support his bizarre claim about Jordan’s bald hairstyle. Surprisingly, N.O.R.E., a former rap artist, attested to Starr’s unbelievable narrative.
During a discussion on his podcast last month, N.O.R.E himself personally told Starr that there could be some truth to his claim about Jordan. N.O.R.E. also couldn’t specify how Onyx influenced MJ’s decision to shave his head. However, he was certain the rap group was incredibly famous at the time and ultimately suggested that the NBA superstar might have thought about emulating Onyx’s signature hairstyle too.
“They doubted you,” N.O.R.E. told Starr. “[But] I was there! I was like, ‘Holy sh—t!’ I didn’t put the facts together like that… but I remember Michael Jordan cutting his hair and Onyx was the hottest thing in the mother**king world.”
“It was a movement,” Starr said of Onyx’s signature bald hairstyle. “That’s how ni—as was lookin. The bald head movement was moving.”
Jordan isn’t a rap fan
While it’s pretty impressive how confident Starr was about his claim, there are a few things that aren’t adding up. For one, N.O.R.E. himself once revealed that Jordan was never a fan of rap music.
“Jordan is a hater of hip-hop. I seen him shut Redman down at a Def Jam Christmas party. We were all sitting there waiting to speak to Michael Jordan. Ni**a said, ‘Yo, Redman and Method Man is here.’ [MJ] said, ‘F**k rap.’ I seen the ni**a say that…Quote me,” N.O.R.E. once said.
“He only spoke to Hov [Jay-Z], but he spoke to Hov,” he added. “That’s without a doubt.”
In addition, Onyx’s first mainstream album was released in 1993, while Jordan started losing hair due to male pattern baldness in the late ’80s. By the early ’90s, MJ was already completely bald.
