From Distress to Hope: Rescuing Jaca and Her Pup, A Journey of Healing and Bonding
While driving along the road, we came across a mother dog and her lone puppy wandering near a drainpipe. We rushed to our car with bread to feed them, but the puppy only ate part of it.
It was uncertain how long they had been starving. We searched the area for more puppies but found none. Perhaps they had perished from hunger—we just didn’t know.
Tears filled our eyes, and the mother’s eyes seemed to carry the weight of her own sorrow. Thankfully, the mother and her pup are now safe.
The mother dog, confined in a pen, cried throughout the night. To comfort her, we let them roam around. The following morning, I gave them both extra milk, and they started to recover safely.
Don’t despair. Remember, patience and perseverance are key—even when faced with hunger or danger on the roads.
Later, I plan to take them to see a vet. These emaciated dogs require easily digestible food because we aren’t sure how long they’ve been without it.
Introducing too much heavy food at once could be harmful to them. After consuming three cans of food, a kind caretaker also provided them with goat’s milk.
The mother dog, whom we’ve named Jaca, went through blood tests. The results showed a low blood platelet count of 22.7% with anemia and high leukemia levels.
She has a severe infection, blood clots, and is infested with fleas which leaves her body in constant dehydration and malnutrition.
The puppy’s condition is equally concerning, with blood work showing similarly low blood counts and high levels of infection. The baby dog suffers from lots of fleas, dehydration, and a critical lack of nutrients.
The vet says a long treatment period is necessary.
Despite their struggles, the bond between Jaca and her puppy remains strong. Jaca frequently licks and nurtures the pup, expressing motherly love and warmth.
Witnessing these moments of affection fills me with joy and purpose. It’s for instances like this that I am here—to assist in alleviating suffering and striving for a better life for these animals.
Blood test results for both Jaca and her puppy are gradually improving. The vet has prescribed nourishing medications and regular supplements for Jaca. Her spirits lift with the tenderness and care she receives.
Thank you to everyone who stands by us with support.
