BLACKPINK has suddenly been embroiled in a shocking controversy, accused of bullying and sidelining a fellow entertainer in the industry. Rumors suggest that this action drove an idol into a dead end, forcing them to retire. What has intensified the scandal even further is the gradual emergence of the alleged victim’s identity.
In a recently aired program, the former member of the group AOA spoke up about BLACKPINK and TWICE . She said that because of the presence of these two groups, she was pressured to the point of retiring
The name ChoA , former member of the girl group AOA, is no longer strange to fans. Thanks to her signature platinum hair, powerful voice and attractive demeanor, ChoA was once praised as the famous “goddess” of Kpop. However, at the peak of her career, she suddenly withdrew from the group, leaving many regrets for the audience.

After many years of silence, ChoA recently appeared on the show “Pajama Party” and shared frankly about her journey as an idol, as well as the real reason why she left the spotlight.
During the conversation, ChoA specifically mentioned the time when TWICE and BLACKPINK debuted. With a bitter tone, ChoA said: “The most difficult period was when BLACKPINK and TWICE debuted. When I saw such new and talented groups, I suddenly realized that was also the time when my career was at its peak. I had nothing more to contribute and needed to stop while the applause was still loud. If I kept trying, I would go crazy.”
This sharing made many viewers recall the time in 2016, when TWICE’s hit “Cheer Up” became a “national song”, and BLACKPINK debuted with a strong girl crush image, immediately creating an earthquake in Kpop. The huge influence of the two 3rd generation rookie groups caused many senior girl groups, including AOA, to gradually fade into obscurity.
Not only was ChoA under pressure from the changing Kpop wave, she also had to deal with insomnia and prolonged depression. Mental stress and work pressure pushed her into a spiral of crisis.
In 2017, ChoA announced that she would be leaving AOA, officially ending her 5-year idol career. This decision not only made fans regretful but also had a big impact on AOA, because ChoA’s voice was considered an irreplaceable pillar. After her departure, the group faced many difficulties and gradually lost its previous position.
ChoA confided that since she was a child, she had dreamed of becoming a singer, standing on stage and bringing her voice to the public. She spent time as a TV shopping MC before officially entering the trainee path and debuting with the group AOA in 2012 under FNC Entertainment.
Thanks to her talent and hard work, ChoA quickly became the group’s main vocalist. Hits like “Miniskirt”, “Like a Cat” and “Heart Attack” all featured her voice. During the 2014-2016 period, AOA rose to become one of the most prominent girl groups of the 2nd generation of Kpop, appearing in many major award ceremonies and receiving heavy media coverage.
However, that success did not bring ChoA the peace that many people think. She frankly shared: “I dreamed of becoming an idol and debuting, but that is not something that can be achieved just by working hard. There are other factors beyond your control that make it impossible for you to maintain your glory no matter how hard you try.”
After leaving the group, ChoA almost disappeared from entertainment activities. The female idol born in 1990 chose a private life, focusing on treatment and finding psychological balance. Only in recent years has she reappeared through her personal YouTube channel and participated in a number of entertainment programs.
Although she no longer holds the same position as before, ChoA still receives enthusiastic support from fans every time she appears. Many fans believe that she made a brave and right choice, because maintaining mental health is more important than maintaining temporary fame.
ChoA’s story once again “exposed” the harsh reality of Kpop – where hard work does not guarantee success. The Korean music market is always fluctuating fiercely, with fierce competition from increasingly young and talented rookies. An idol’s halo can shine brightly for a few years, but can also fade away after just one new generation appears.
ChoA’s sharing made the public sympathize and reflect. Although her golden age has passed, ChoA is still remembered as one of the most talented and unique vocalists of the 2nd generation of Kpop. Fans now hope that if ChoA cannot return to the entertainment industry as before, she can find joy and happiness in the simple life she has chosen.
