Black Boy Helps Connor McDavid with Flat Tire, The Next Day, a Black SUV Showed Up at His House.
a simple act of kindness by a young boy led to an incredible gesture from one of hockey’s greatest stars, Connor McDavid. What started as a chance encounter on the side of the road blossomed into a story of generosity and surprise, leaving everyone involved in awe of the kindness that can be sparked by the most ordinary of moments.
It was a typical afternoon when 12-year-old Jamal Davis, a young boy from a small suburban neighborhood, was walking home from school. As he made his way down the street, he noticed a black sports car pulled over to the side with its hazard lights flashing. The car appeared to be in distress, and instinctively, Jamal approached to see if he could offer assistance.
What Jamal didn’t realize at the time was that the person in the car was none other than Connor McDavid, the captain of the Edmonton Oilers and arguably one of the most famous and talented hockey players in the world. McDavid, who had been on his way to a team event, had gotten a flat tire on his car and was struggling to figure out how to handle the situation.
Without hesitation, Jamal, who had some experience changing tires from helping his dad around the house, offered his assistance. The young boy didn’t seem starstruck or intimidated; he just saw someone in need and wanted to help.
“I saw he was stuck, and I just thought, ‘Hey, I can do this. I’ve helped my dad with his car before,’” Jamal later explained. With impressive composure for someone his age, Jamal got to work, quickly changing the tire while McDavid watched, genuinely impressed.
When the tire was finally replaced, McDavid thanked Jamal, who modestly brushed it off, saying he was happy to help. McDavid, however, couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of gratitude for the unexpected kindness from the young boy. After all, it wasn’t every day that a professional athlete found himself helped out by a young fan, especially one who didn’t even bat an eye at the star status of the person he was assisting.
Before parting ways, McDavid asked Jamal if there was anything he could do to repay the favor, but Jamal simply smiled and waved him off, saying, “No problem! Have a good day, Mr. McDavid.”
As McDavid drove away, he couldn’t shake the impact of the encounter. It was a reminder of how simple acts of kindness and genuine connections can make a difference. And for McDavid, who often lives under the intense scrutiny that comes with being a superstar, it was a refreshing moment of humility.
The next day, something completely unexpected happened. As Jamal was playing basketball in his driveway, a sleek black SUV pulled into his neighborhood. It was a car he didn’t recognize, but what truly left him speechless was the figure who stepped out: none other than Connor McDavid himself.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Jamal recalled. “I thought it was a joke at first. Why would Connor McDavid come to my house?”
McDavid, ever the down-to-earth athlete, greeted Jamal and his family with a warm smile. He explained that he had been so moved by the boy’s help that he wanted to give him a little surprise as a token of his appreciation.
The hockey star reached into the SUV and pulled out a brand-new bike for Jamal, along with a signed jersey and tickets to an Edmonton Oilers game. Jamal’s eyes widened as he saw the gifts, but what touched him most was McDavid’s sincerity.
“You didn’t have to do that, but thank you so much!” Jamal said, clearly overwhelmed.
McDavid smiled and shrugged, saying, “You showed me a lot of character yesterday, and I wanted to make sure you know that good things come from doing good for others.”
What started as a small act of kindness snowballed into a heartwarming story of generosity and connection. Jamal’s willingness to help someone in need—regardless of who they were—struck a chord with McDavid, and in return, the hockey player took the time to show gratitude in a way that would forever change Jamal’s life.
Oilers’ Connor McDavid Projected to Break $20 Million Cap Hit
Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid could become the first player in NHL history to sign a contract worth more than $20 million per season when he signs his next contract between now and July 2026 when his current deal is set to expire.
In a breakdown for The Athletic, analyst Dom Luszczyszyn projected the Oilers captain is in line for a record-breaking deal. As Luszczyszyn points out, the NHL recently announced a massive salary cap increase projection for the next three years with that surge sandwiching McDavid’s negotiating window. The NHL and NHLPA expect the cap — currently at $88 million — to reach 113.5 million by 2027-28.
“A league-max deal is 20 percent of the cap and during the 2026–27 season that amounts to $20.8 million,” Luszczyszyn wrote. “According to my model, McDavid is currently the only player in the league projected to be worth 20 percent of the cap or more.”

Luszczyszyn pointed to three key reasons why McDavid’s next contract could break the $20-million-per-year barrier.
First and most obviously, the timing of his extension aligns with the cap surpassing $100 million for the first time in league history, giving teams more spending power.
Second, Luszczyszyn argued that higher revenues will slow the long-term decline of player value, making max contracts more viable as the revenue will supposedly help the cap keep rising steadily.
Third, the analyst noted that the NHL has lagged behind other major sports leagues in player salaries and expects a push to close that gap, building a pathway for other star players to start earning huge amounts of money in the near future.

“The highest-paid NFL, NBA and MLB players all clear $50 million per season,” Luszczyszyn wrote. “The NHL is still playing catch-up on that front and McDavid has a chance to pave the way for that by raising the bar in a serious way.”
McDavid, 28, is in the seventh season of an eight-year, $100 million contract, which carries an annual cap hit of $12.5 million.
Two players are currently earning more money than McDavid on a yearly basis: Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews ($13.25 million as part of a four-year deal) and Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon ($12.6 million on the second season of an eight-year contract).
