The Golden State Warriors’ 2024-25 campaign has been a rollercoaster, drawing widespread attention for their uncharacteristically average performance. With a 19-18 record and holding the ninth seed in the Western Conference, the team finds itself at a crossroads. Led by two-time MVP Stephen Curry, the Warriors still possess the potential to contend for an eighth championship but face glaring issues that demand immediate attention.

General Manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. may have to make a bold move to address these problems. While much of the NBA’s trade speculation has centered around Phoenix Suns guard Bradley Beal, a more audacious target could be Devin Booker. At 28, Booker is a four-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA selection who is entering his prime. Despite his impressive pedigree, Booker’s performance this season has dipped slightly—averaging 24.4 points, 7.0 assists, and posting a 49.6% effective field goal percentage, his lowest since his rookie year.

Phoenix, currently at 17-19, might be nearing a crossroads of its own. If the Suns fail to turn their season around, the idea of a fire sale could become plausible. This would present Golden State with a unique opportunity to swoop in and acquire Booker, forming a backcourt with Curry that would rank among the best in NBA history. For Booker, joining the Warriors could reignite his championship aspirations, especially after falling short in the 2021 NBA Finals against the Milwaukee Bucks.

To secure Booker, the Warriors would need to assemble an enticing package likely involving Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, and Moses Moody, supplemented by Gary Payton II, Kevon Looney, and future draft picks. While such a deal would deplete their depth, the addition of Booker would inject new life into Golden State’s title hopes, solidifying their status as serious contenders in a loaded Western Conference
