Patrick Mahomes might have won the Super Bowl thrice, but he is still a little kid to his mother. Football is one of the most violent sports, and players naturally suffer injuries now and then. While the player is always on the verge of getting hurt, the family also has to bear the suspense.

Randi Mahomes has become almost as popular as her quarterback son ever since the 2017 draft. While an avid supporter of the Kansas City Chiefs and a constant cheerleader of her son, the mother of three revealed how it hasn’t gotten easier watching the three-time MVP play on the field.

Randi still gets “nervous” watching Patrick Mahomes

It can’t be easy watching your kid play a violent sport like the NFL on the regular. While Randi has witnessed her son become one of the most popular players of this era, she still hasn’t gotten used to watching the dynamic sport without getting her shares of worries. On a recent appearance on Ken5’s Great Day SA, the single mother confessed that she still gets tense watching Mahomes take the opposing players in full force.

When asked whether she still gets nervous watching her son’s games, Randi replied, “Absolutely.” She revealed that the QB’s agent had assured her that it would get easy to watch the vigorous plays with time, but that hasn’t been the case even seven years later! “But I do get very nervous, and I know his agent told me from day one like we’re gonna work through this, but it’s seven years later, and I still am like pacing. I don’t sit still.”

Calling the whole experience “surreal,” Randi shared how she still tends to hide her eyes despite knowing it’s not going to make the Chiefs star play any better. The protective mom tendencies are strong in the single mother, as was clearly evident back in 2021 when the quarterback suffered a concussion threat.

When Randi reacted to Mahomes’ injury

During an AFC Divisional Round game against the Cleveland Browns, Mahomes struggled to get back on his feet after suffering a hit from linebacker Mack Wilson. After he was helped off the field by the medical staff, the quarterback entered concussion protocol. While the QB and Wilson dusted off the matter with grace on social media later, mama Mahomes had a more volatile reaction.

The worried mother celebrated the Chiefs’ win on X with a jab at Wilson. She wrote in a since-deleted tweet, “#51 evil NEVER WINS!!! Love my Chiefs.” This caught the eye of the Browns LB, who tried to pacify the angry mother.

Wilson’s efforts bore fruits ultimately, as Randi appreciated his “kind words,” and explained how her reaction was just of a “momma bear” getting concerned watching her son. “Thanks!! I know every player was out there playing their best.. this momma bear was just having a hard time watching it…. it hurt me as a parent is all.. appreciate your kind words..” said Mama Mahomes.

This was just one of the many instances when Randi came out in full arms to defend her son. While she may struggle to watch Patrick Mahomes battle it out in the brutal sport, her love has been steadfast as ever.
