Fans, pundits, and experts have begun to make their Super Bowl picks, but there might be a bigger conquest at stake here. Many have been questioning whether or not Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes should be cemented as the GOAT.

Mahomes is 28 and should he win, he would have his third Super Bowl ring. This would be on par with the timing that Tom Brady has had in his conquest to being crowned the greatest to do it. Will McFadden of Bleav in Falcons wants to silence that debate by stating a Chiefs win today means that the throne of the greatest will be tested by Mahomes.

“If the Chiefs win this game, it’s just going to cement the conversation that we’ve been having. Really in the lead up that supposes that Patrick Mahomes is going to win this game. That is Tom Brady, the player we all were certain we would never see another copy of, is going to have a real legitimate rival to the throne of the NFL. And that is crazy to think, right? Tom Brady, who just rattled off Super Bowls like nobody else had ever done, is now immediately chased by somebody who is doing the exact same thing.”

McFadden is not wrong in stating that the trajectory of Mahome’s career to this point is nearly identical to that of Brady. The difference is that Brady played into his 40s and secured a Super Bowl ring at 43 years old.

There is no promise that Mahomes will play well into his 40s, but he may just do that. He has shown great resolve, which is why many have placed him among the best to do it, right next to Brady.

Time and time again, people have counted out Mahomes. He has showcased what makes him so special in that he can come from behind and shock the world.

Should he lead the Chiefs to a victory today, McFadden’s words will ring true.
