Travis Kelce’s new catchphrase, “alright nah,” was caught on camera during Kansas City Chiefs training camp. But the witty comment hasn’t quite resonated with Taylor Swift’s dedicated fanbase, the Swifties.
The Chiefs shared a video compilation of Kelce repeatedly using the phrase while wearing a safety guardian helmet during training camp. The tight end was mic’d up throughout practice, cheering on his teammates from the sideline.
While Kansas City hoped for positive replies from NFL fans who admire Kelce, the timing of the post overlapped with Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour show at Wembley Stadium, which ruffled some feathers among the Swifties, who were engaged in the tour and the surprise songs that Swift is known for performing.
The video dropped on social media at 4:41 p.m. ET. Swift’s Eras Tour show at Wembley Stadium saw doors open minutes earlier at the top of the hour. Swifties flooded the comments section on X with their disapproval, seemingly unhappy to be distracted by some Kelce content while Swift was on stage.
One dedicated fan account for “Tayvis” commented on X, “Dropping this during the last surprise songs of the European Eras leg is a choice.” Another Swifty agreed and said, “Not now honey, mommy is watching the Eras Tour.” The theme continued, with fans emphasizing their distraction from Kelce and focusing instead on Swift’s performance.
Swift fans were instead captivated as their favorite artist delivered a special moment during the show by performing her track “Florida” for the first time with Florence Welch, the legendary lead singer for Florence and the Machine.
Despite the mixed reception, Kelce remains popular as Swift’s boyfriend in the NFL world. He’s been extremely supportive of Swift on tour, attending 14 of her shows across the globe, including stops in Argentina, Australia, France, England, Ireland, and more.
Swift acknowledged her connection to Kelce during her tour, including when she pointed to a fan wearing a Chief’s hat in the crowd. The fan posted the moment on socials, showing Swift nodding and pointing to her head with the gesture in a glittering silver dress.
Swift’s Era Tour continues throughout November with six dates in Toronto and three in December at BC Place in Vancouver. Kelce’s training camp schedule with the Chiefs began in July, leading to the team’s first preseason game, losing 26-13 to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Chiefs fans were stunned to see Kelce take the field for the first game of the year, playing just one drive. He caught one pass for seven yards from Patrick Mahomes, who also played a single drive in the game. Kansas City lost their following preseason game to the Detroit Lions and will face No. 1 overall draft pick Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears on Aug. 22. Swift’s London leg ends on the 20th, providing a short window for her to appear in Kansas City.
