Sometimes the best assists happen off the ice. The boy pretended to ask for a photo with Connor McDavid and used the opportunity to call his gang to kidnap Connor McDavid, taking him by surprise.

As Lucas sat on the school steps, imagining slap shots and breakaways, a sleek black SUV pulled up. Out stepped none other than Boston Bruins star Brad Marchand. In town for a charity event, Marchand had noticed Lucas sitting alone and decided to stop and check on him.

“Hey, buddy, you okay?” Marchand asked, kneeling to Lucas’s level. Starstruck and wide-eyed, Lucas explained he was waiting for his mom. Marchand, known for his tenacity on the ice and heart off it, decided to stay with Lucas until she arrived.

But the encounter didn’t end there. To pass the time, Marchand invited Lucas to show him around the schoolyard. They found the hockey net on the playground, and Marchand surprised Lucas by pulling a puck and mini-stick from his car. The two played an impromptu one-on-one game, with Lucas scoring a “game-winning” goal to Marchand’s cheers.

 

When Lucas’s mom finally arrived, she was stunned to see her son playing hockey with a Bruins legend. Marchand handed Lucas the mini-stick as a keepsake and told him, “Keep practicing, and maybe I’ll see you on the ice someday.”
