For months, inescapable rumors have been circulating about whether pop Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce are getting engaged. Despite the fact that she reportedly already has her maid of honor picked out, it looks like Swift’s totally cool with waiting for Kelce to make the move — a feeling her fans know all too well.

Swift and Kelce went public with their romance in July 2023, and their courtship had the engagement rumor mill cranking just months after the two acknowledged they were an item. Fans might remember that during her six-year relationship with British actor Joe Alwyn, marriage speculation was always in the air. While their relationship was ultra-private and we only know a few select details about their long-term relationship, the story seems to be that Alwyn wasn’t into the idea of getting hitched, which led to their split in March 2023.

Despite reportedly not wanting to let Kelce drag his feet regarding an engagement like her ex did, she is also totally chill about waiting for Kelce to propose. Color us confused. According to OK! Magazine, “Taylor sees herself marrying Travis, but she’s not pushing it because she knows what their future holds,” said a source.

This patient vibe sounds similar to her previous relationship, where she reportedly waited to get the things she needed out of it, like public acknowledgment of said relationship (which, let’s be real, isn’t that big of an ask). Swift reportedly made big sacrifices for their relationship, like moving to London and toning down her outgoing personality to fit Alywn’s need for privacy. Despite this, there was always public speculation about them getting engaged. Insiders say Alwyn hesitated to take the next step, leading Swift to end things after nearly seven years.

So what’s different with Kelce that she feels comfortable waiting this time around? For starters, he has no problem sharing his love for her on any and all platforms. “It’s like, you want to keep things private, but at the same time, I’m not here to hide anything. Like, that’s my girl. That’s my lady. I’m proud of that,” Kelce said on the Bussin’ With the Boys podcast.

The two have also spent exorbitant amounts of money on each other during the honeymoon phase of their romance, and it seems like Kelce is able to give Swift the type of romantic attention she wants in a relationship. And insiders say he’s thinking, “I Do,” too.

“Travis is in it for the long haul, too. He’s been ready to pop the question for a while,” said an insider. So, why the delay? “Travis’ last few concerts were bittersweet. They knew their time together like this was coming to an end and he made sure to spend every minute he could with Taylor,” another source noted. Their busy careers often keep them apart, making it hard to find the right moment for such a big step.

However, the distance hasn’t diminished their connection. “It’s definitely tough to be apart but they do everything they can to make it work and show up for each other,” said an insider. The two are reportedly nervous about the time they will have to spend apart this fall when Swift is in Europe on her Eras Tour and Kelce is back in NFL mode with the Kansas City Chiefs. “They’re so in love and very, very happy together.”

As the engagement rumors continue, it’s hard not to see some similarities between her past relationship with Alwyn and present relationship with Kelce — but it seems like Kelce and Swift are on the same page in terms of what they want out of a relationship, which was a clear roadblock with her ex. Will Swift eventually marry Kelce, or is this just another eerily similar chapter in her famous love life? Only time will tell.
