NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has never been one to hold back his opinions but his latest blunder on TNT show “Inside the NBA” has landed him in hot water with Detroit Pistons fans.
The Hall of Famer ignited a wave of backlash online, after he misidentified Chauncey Billups as the team’s head coach. When corrected, Shaq brushed off the mistake, casually admitting, “I don’t watch Detroit.” Fans immediately took to social media, mocking Shaq for his lack of awareness.
The Pistons’ official account joined the fun, posting a savage response. They posted a picture of the Pistons celebrating their 2004 NBA Finals win over Shaq’s Lakers, with the caption “Nothing new here.” The image also included the text “Overlooked in 2004” and “Overlooked in 2025,” taking a jibe at the Hall of Famer for brushing them off.
A hilarious comment by an NBA fan suggested to start a GoFundMe page for Shaq to buy a NBA League Pass. Shaq admitted on live T.V, “I don’t watch Detroit,” which reinforced the idea that smaller-market teams don’t get proper coverage.
Some fans also expressed their frustration on NBA media and their coverage. Some even blamed the media as the major reason for the fall in NBA ratings. Analysts with massive platforms are expected to stay informed yet moments like this show a clear lack of research and attention.
Bro stop it. They’re boring too- Shaq on watching the Detroit Pistons
Recently, the NBA legend was on a podcast and was talking about the NBA being boring. When the host brought up the young Pistons team’s incredible run this season, Shaq called them “boring.”
“When I hear people say, ‘Oh, the NBA is boring,’ I go, you’re watching the same teams. Because if you put on the Detroit Pistons right now—“
Shaq cut off the host and said, “Bro stop it. They’re boring too.”
The host questioned Shaq’s intent and rightly so.
“40-20? So we can only talk about three teams?“
Shaq replied with, “Oh, Detroit Pistons ain’t winning no championship. Stop it.”
The young Pistons squad led by Cade Cunningham sit sixth in the eastern conference with a sizable advantage over the 32-34 Atlanta Hawks in seventh.
