Reports indicate that Swift’s team has held “preliminary talks” with Chinese authorities about the possibility of a show in Shanghai.

Zhang Qi, deputy director of Shanghai’s culture and tourism bureau, revealed the discussions during a recent event.

“We’re optimistic that [there] may be hope this year,”Zhang said, while emphasizing that the final decision would depend on the market and the city’s appeal.

Swift’sEras Tour, which began in March 2023, set unprecedented records, earning over $2 billion in ticket sales.

The tour, which spanned five continents and featured 149 shows, made Swift the first artist to achieve $1 billion in revenue from a single tour.

Despite its success, China was notably absent from her list of stops, even as Swift performed in other parts of Asia, including Japan and Singapore.

The pop icon’s massive tour also brought significant economic benefits to host cities, sparking interest in securing future performances.

Shanghai’s bid for a Swift concert could mirror the cultural and financial impact seen in other locations during the Eras Tour.
