It runs purely on electricity, no emissions at all, and it’s got a range of about 400 miles on a single charge. Absolutely no need to worry about charging it every few hours. It’s as good as it gets when it comes to electric cars.”
Leonardo stood frozen for a moment, his gut tightening. He knew the car in question well, and while it was a top-of-the-line model, it wasn’t nearly as perfect as Alex was making it sound. The range, for one, was closer to 250 miles—not 400, and the car’s eco-friendly claims were based on certain conditions that Alex seemed to be glossing over. It was the kind of exaggerated, misleading sales pitch that could easily fool an unsuspecting customer.
Leonardo’s face tightened with frustration. He had always prided himself on transparency and honesty in his business, especially when it came to the environment and sustainability. He couldn’t let this slide. Without a second thought, he walked toward the group.

“Alex,” Leonardo said, his voice firm but calm as he approached the sales counter.
The salesman froze, his smile faltering as he turned to see the man who owned the dealership standing right behind him. The young couple, who had been listening intently, looked confused.
“Mr. DiCaprio,” Alex stammered, his face flushing with realization. “I— I didn’t see you there. Uh, let me just finish—”
“No, no,” Leonardo interrupted, raising a hand to stop him. “It’s fine, Alex. I heard what you were saying, and I think we need to clear something up.”
The room grew still. The young couple, sensing something was wrong, exchanged glances. They had no idea what was about to happen, but they could feel the shift in the atmosphere.
Leonardo turned to the couple, his tone now gentle but direct. “I want to apologize for the confusion,” he said, offering them a reassuring smile. “While this car is an incredible piece of engineering, the range is actually closer to 250 miles, not the 400 miles you were just told. I’m sure Alex didn’t mean to mislead you, but we want to make sure you have all the facts before making a decision.”
Alex stood frozen, mortified. He had been caught. He had been exaggerating the car’s capabilities in a desperate attempt to close a sale. But the moment he saw Leonardo’s unwavering stance, he knew there was no escaping the truth.
“I… I didn’t mean to—” Alex began, but Leonardo cut him off.
“You didn’t mean to?” Leonardo said, his voice calm but edged with disappointment. “Look, we don’t run this dealership on lies, Alex. The whole point is to sell products that are not just great cars, but ones that are truly good for the environment. That means being honest about their capabilities. You’ve got to respect that.”
The young couple was still processing the situation. They glanced at each other, then back at Leonardo.
“I really appreciate you clearing that up,” the woman said. “We’ve been looking into electric cars for months, and honesty is really important to us.”
Leonardo nodded, a small but genuine smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “Of course, and that’s why we’re here. To make sure you get the best experience and the most accurate information.”
Taking Action
After the couple left, satisfied with the clarity they’d received, Leonardo turned to Alex, his expression no longer one of anger, but of disappointment.
“Alex, I’ve always said I want this place to run with integrity. I want it to be a place where our customers feel confident, not just about the cars, but about how we operate,” Leonardo said, his voice firm but understanding. “Today, you crossed a line. I don’t care about making a quick sale—we make our reputation on doing things the right way, and right now, you’re not representing that. I need you to understand how serious this is.”
Alex, now thoroughly chastened, nodded, his face red with embarrassment. “I’m really sorry, Mr. DiCaprio. I got carried away, and I shouldn’t have said that. I won’t do it again.”
Leonardo paused, considering for a moment. He wanted to make sure Alex understood the gravity of the situation, but he also didn’t want to make a rash decision.
“You’re lucky I’m giving you this chance to learn from this,” Leonardo finally said. “But this is your warning, Alex. I expect better from you going forward. We can’t afford to lose the trust of our customers. If I hear of anything like this again, you won’t be working here.”

As Leonardo walked out of the dealership later that evening, he felt a mix of relief and frustration. He had caught a dishonest act, but he also knew he had done the right thing by addressing it immediately. He couldn’t allow anyone to tarnish the reputation he’d worked so hard to build, not with something as crucial as transparency in selling eco-friendly cars.

It wasn’t just about selling cars; it was about promoting sustainability, integrity, and truth in an industry that was all too often filled with empty promises.
As for Alex, the experience had undoubtedly been a wake-up call. There was no room for shortcuts in a business built on trust, and he had learned that lesson the hard way. From then on, he vowed to always sell with honesty—no matter the cost. After all, as Leonardo had just shown him, doing the right thing always paid off in the end.
