Andy Cohen Reacts to CBS Cancelling ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Says ‘It’s a Sad Day for Late-Night Television’

Andy Cohen is the latest late-night talk show host to speak out following the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
On Thursday (July 18), Stephen Colbert announced that his CBS late-night talk show will be ending next year, with the final episode airing in May 2026. In a statement, the network said that the cancellation was “purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night.”
Hours later while walking the red carpet for Las Culturistas Culture Awards, Andy, 57, reacted to the news while also singing his praises for Stephen, 61.
“I think it’s a sad day for late-night television,” Andy told Deadline. “I think it’s a sad day for CBS. I think Stephen Colbert is a singular talent. He’s going to have an incredible next chapter.”
The Watch What Happens Live host continued, “I can’t believe CBS is turning off the lights at 11:30 after the local news. I’m stunned. He’s one of three late-night shows deemed worthy enough for an Emmy nomination. He produces a brilliant show.”
Andy also noted that he “worked at CBS when [David] Letterman came to CBS,” making the network “a powerhouse in late-night television, so it’s sad.”
“I spent 10 years at CBS,” he added. “It’s sad for CBS, really.”
Following news of The Late Show‘s cancellation, a fellow late-night talk show host slammed CBS.
