Patrick Mahomes turns 29 - with Taylor Swift in attendance

Patrick Mahomes has celebrated two milestones within hours of each other. First, his Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 26-25 on Sunday afternoon. Later in the evening, he celebrated his 29th birthday at his family mansion two days before the actual date of the occasion.

His wife Brittany, who turned 29 on Sept. 1, went on a posting spree in her Instagram stories, sharing photos of the quarterback cutting his cake.

And if an Instagram story by Mecole Hardman’s fiancee Chariah Gordon is any indication, there was a famous guest in attendance: Travis Kelce’s multi-platinum pop superstar girlfriend Taylor Swift.

Patrick Mahomes still chasing historic three-peat in age-29 season despite inauspicious start

There is one thing that could make Patrick Mahomes’ 29th year happier than most: a third straight Super Bowl title.

Only two teams have gone to three straight Super Bowls: the Miami Dolphins (1971-73) and the New England Patriots (2016-18). However, a three-peat of Lombardi Trophies has yet to happen.

The Chiefs may need to improve their ball security if they want it to happen. Their first two games have seen Mahomes throw as many interceptions as touchdowns, and their win against the Bengals came only after Harrison Butker connected on a 51-yard field goal as time expired.

Mahomes said after the game:

“I thought we did a lot of good things, but obviously the three turnovers just can’t happen. The first interception, I’ve got to find the backside linebacker. I mean, the kid made a great play on the second pick. I’m glad we played not as clean as we want to and still found a way to win… but obviously we’ve got to clean up a lot of stuff on offense as we go forward.”

He also praised the Bengals for shutting down Travis Kelce, who was limited to a single 18-yard reception — his first outing with fewer than three catches since 2018:

“I know they are doing a great job of just kind of having two people for him, pretty much the entire game… Look at the first TD. I’m actually looking at Trav, and the backside safety goes all the way across to the field to help guard Travis. And then I threw the ball down the sideline to Rashee.”
