NBA Rookie Sends Strong Caitlin Clark Message on International Women’s Day
Caitlin Clark has been an incredible inspiration to so many over the past few years. While she has positively influenced women of all ages, her impact has also reached people from all corners of the world, regardless of gender.
On International Women’s Day, celebrated every year on March 8, it is a perfect opportunity for athletes, and people everywhere, to recognize and celebrate the female role models in their lives.
In an interview with a young lady, posted to the Philadelphia 76ers Instagram, talented rookie, Jared McCain was asked to name the women he looks up to in his life.
McCain responded, saying his answer is an “easy” one to give.
“For the basketball space, it’s easy. Caitlin Clark. I’ve got a signed jersey of hers, and I’m excited to see where her career goes,” McCain said.
McCain, a promising rookie for the 76ers, had his season cut short by a torn meniscus that required surgery on his left knee this past December.
Clark, who was a rookie last season in the WNBA, after being selected No. 1 overall by the Indiana Fever, instantly became the “face of the league”. Clark backed up the unofficial responsibility by winning the Rookie of the Year award, being named to the All-WNBA First Team, finishing fourth in MVP voting, and helping lead the Fever to the playoffs for the first team since 2016.

McCain also said, “My mom is number one, for sure,” but for Clark to be mentioned in the same breath, by McCain, as his own mother, highlights the tremendous impact Clark is having all around the world.
The WNBA season is set to tip-off on May 16, 2025 and the Fever’s season starts one day later on May 17, at home, against the Chicago Sky and Angel Reese.
