‘The Summer I Turned Pretty Author’ wrote Taylor Swift a ‘handwritten note’ for permission to use love song

“The Summer I Turned Pretty” author and executive producer “knew what song [she] wanted” in the season finale from the start — and was willing to do “whatever it took to get it.”

During an appearance on Jenna Bush Hager’s “Open Book” podcast, Jenny Han revealed she always envisioned main characters Conrad and Belly dancing to Swift’s song “The Way I Loved You.”

“I don’t think anyone thought we were gonna get it, honestly,” Han admitted.

However, a music executive suggested that she write a letter to Swift explaining its significance — which she did.

Han’s “handwritten note” explained “how much it would mean — not just to her, but to the fans.”

Not only did the pop star give her permission to use the “Fearless” track but she also debuted “This Love (Taylor’s Version)” in the Season 1 trailer and teased “Back to December (Taylor’s Version)” in the Season 2 trailer.

Over a dozen songs from the singer’s discography have been used in the series.

“I felt like she is someone who bets on women. And I felt like she bet on me,” Han said of Swift. “And I can’t say enough how thankful I am that she let us use her music. And I think she knows, too, her fans would like the show.”

With strong wildfires affecting LA residents in early 2025, some people are wondering if certain celebrities homes are safe from the ravaging flames. One of those celebrities includes Taylor Swift, who owns a multimillion dollar property in Los Angeles County.

Over 100,000 Los Angeles residents have evacuated due to the Palisades, Eaton, and Hollywood Hills wildfires. The Palisades and Eaton Fire has consumed at least 10,600 acres in northern Los Angeles County. The fires were caused by a combination of dry conditions and powerful winds and are having a huge effect far beyond the danger zones. 5 people had died because of the fires and 1,000 structures have been destroyed. The fire is entirely uncontained, making it the most destructive in L.A. history.

Is Taylor Swift’s home safe from the Palisades fire?

As of writing this on Jan. 9, 2025, 11 a.m. EST, Taylor Swift’s home is safe from the Los Angeles Wildfires. The Pacific Palisades is miles away from Swift’s home in Beverly Hills.

The singer, who recently became a billionaire, bought the $25 million 10,982-square-foot landmarked mansion in Beverly Hills in the 2015. The house was previously owned by Samuel Goldwyn, who founded MGM studios. In 2018, she applied for and won landmark status for the estate, which ensures that the house can never be significantly changed or demolished. She currently owns eight properties across the United States in cities like Nashville, New York City, and also in Rhode Island.

“While the City of Beverly Hills is not directly impacted, the Beverly Hills Fire Department is monitoring the situation closely,” the city’s X profile posted. They also posted that air levels in the area are unhealthy. After the Sunset Fire emerged, the City of LA has declared portions of Beverly Hills as a voluntary evacuation zone (areas north of Sunset and east of Coldwater Canyon Dr.)
