How Jason Kelce De-Escalated Angry Fan Incident Weeks After Phone-Smashing Altercation

Since the widely publicized phone-smashing incident in early November, Jason Kelce has learned to maintain his composure.

An irate fan confronted the 37-year-old former center for the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, November 21, after he left a Jimmy Kimmel Live! filming in Los Angeles. In a video that TMZ was able to obtain, the man yelled at Jason, calling him “nobody special” and using numerous profanities.

The man appeared irate that the New Heights podcaster had gone straight to his car instead of stopping to sign autographs. “You’re some s**t bag, f**king guy that thinks he’s on some pedestal,” he yelled at Jason, adding, “Don’t be a d**k!”

Jason tried to explain himself, saying, “I have a habit of not signing for people that follow where I’m going.” This, however, only seemed to make the yelling man even angrier. “You don’t love nothing but money. You don’t know these streets. F**k you, your love is fake,” he shouted, while another man could be heard yelling, “This is public information, Jason!”

They always stood outside to grab autographs from celebs on Kimmel’s show, the man said, and they hadn’t followed him. He mentioned celebrities who stopped for autographs, including Harrison Ford and Morgan Freeman.

Even when Jason climbed into the waiting car, apparently ready to go, the ranting persisted. The ESPN presenter, however, maintained his composure and decided to exit the vehicle and approach people who were requesting autographs directly.

Jason said he “didn’t mean anything” by omitting the autographs and apologized to the man. The individual who had been yelling retracted his remarks, expressed his “ashamed” feelings for the outburst, and congratulated Kelce as he was seen signing autographs for the audience.

The former NFL player had appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to reveal that he would be hosting They Call It Late Night with Jason Kelce, an hour-long late-night program on ESPN. The first episode of the show, which will be recorded in Philadelphia, will premiere on January 4 at 1 a.m. ET.

Only weeks have passed since Jason went viral for destroying a Penn State student’s cell phone after he hurled derogatory remarks about his brother, Travis Kelce. “Listen, I am not happy with anything that took place. I’m not proud of it. In a heated moment, I chose to greet hate with hate. I just don’t think that is a productive thing… I try to treat people with common decency and respect. I’m going to keep doing that moving forward, even though I fell short this week,” he said.

Days after Jason’s public apology, Travis addressed the incident on the pair’s podcast. He came to his brother’s defense, saying, “The real situation is you had some clown come up to you and talk about your family, and you reacted in a way that was defending your family, and you might have used some words that you regret using.”
