KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Creed Humphrey will be protecting Patrick Mahomes for four more years.

According to several reports, the Kansas City Chiefs have signed Humphrey to a four-year contract extension worth $72 million. Humphrey will receive $50 million guaranteed.

The contract makes him the highest-paid center in the NFL.

Humphrey has been a stalwart since he was drafted in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft coming out of Oklahoma. He was an All-Pro as a rookie, a second-team All-Pro and a Pro Bowl selection his second season and received another Pro Bowl nod last season.

Humphrey teamed with guards Trey Smith and Joe Thuney, has formed one of the best interior offensive lines in the NFL and has been crucial to the Chiefs’ back-to-back Super Bowl run.

The 25-year-old has also been durable, starting in all 51 regular season games and each playoff game that he has played in for the Chiefs.

Getting Humphrey and Smith’s deals done has been a focal point for the team this offseason and linebacker Nick Bolton is also on the list that could receive an extension as well.

“That’s the trick – how you do keep them,” head coach Andy Reid said on August 7 during training camp. “That’s (General Manager) Brett’s (Veach) – he’s the magician in that. I’m just a spectator there. They’ve played so well for us (so) you got to see what you can do with the contracts as they come up.”
