Kansas City Chiefs reach another franchise milestone with Christmas Day victory over Steelers

The Kansas City Chiefs have rewritten the history books since Andy Reid took over as head coach in 2013.

With their 29-10 Christmas Day victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Chiefs have set a new franchise record for most wins in a single season with 15. That tops the 2020 and 2022 Chiefs teams that each won 14 games.

The 2024 Chiefs are now just the eighth team in NFL history to win 15 or more games, and the first since the Carolina Panthers did it in 2015. Here is the list of teams that have won at least 15 games during the regular season:

Will the Chiefs or the Bills end up with the AFC’s top seed? Will the Chiefs or the Bills end up with the AFC’s top seed?

2024: Chiefs

2015: Panthers
2011: Green Bay Packers
2007: New England Patriots
2004: Steelers
1998: Minnesota Vikings
1985: Chicago Bears
1984: San Francisco 49ers

This also marks the first time that Reid has won 15 games in a season during his 26-year tenure as a head coach. It’s the cherry on top of a season in which the Chiefs have clinched the No. 1 seed in the AFC despite suffering multiple key injuries. Kansas City is playing it’s best football on both sides of the ball at the perfect time.

Regular season success hasn’t always translated into postseason success. The Chiefs did win the Super Bowl in 2022, but lost the big game in 2020. Each time K.C. has won 13 games, it has gone one-and-done in the playoffs. As for this year, several Chiefs starters will now get some much-needed rest as K.C. won’t play another meaningful game until the divisional round of the playoffs.
