Kurt Warner is known for having one of the best underdog stories in NFL history. He went from bouncing between teams that didn’t want him to lead one of the greatest offenses in history. Now, his son EJ Warner is showing similar flashes that made his father so great
EJ plays for the Owls of Rice University as a quarterback, just like his old man. In their latest game on Saturday, he pulled off an extremely impressive passing touchdown.
From the opposing five-yard line, Warner sat in the pocket before eventually running out to the left and looking for an open receiver.
With nothing opening up, it looked like he was about to attempt to run it into the endzone with multiple defenders barreling down on him. That’s when he delivered a beautiful shovel pass to a running back on his right.
It appears that Warner has been watching some game film on superstar Patrick Mahomes instead of his father.
His team was down 7-37 at the time, so there’s a strong chance not all the starters were on the field for defense, but that shouldn’t diminish the concentration and awareness required to pull off this kind of play.
EJ Warner Is Now On His Second College Team
Warner started his collegiate career in 2022, playing for Temple, where he recorded 3,028 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He followed up in 2023 with an almost identical number: 3,076 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
However, he announced he would be leaving the university and transferring to Rice, their ACC rival.
Through Warner’s first four games at his new school, he has accumulated 466 passing yards, three touchdowns, and four interceptions. It seems as though he’s having a hard time adjusting to the new school and playbook.
