This poor baby was found in a stroller.
On Friday, police responded to a call at the Pittsburgh International airport that a dog had been left abandoned in a stroller in short term parking.
The Allegheny County Police Department posted the following sad story to Facebook.
The post reads in part, “This morning at approximately 5:30 a.m., ACPD officers working at Pittsburgh International Airport were called to assist with a dog that was found unattended in a stroller on airport property. Officers were able to locate a microchip on the animal but attempts to reach the owner were unsuccessful. Investigators learned the dog’s owner was told by airline officials the dog needed to be placed in a crate in order to fly. The investigation revealed the owner then abandoned the dog near short-term parking and proceeded to board a flight. County police contacted the state dog warden to safely turn over the dog. A charge of animal abandonment is expected to be filed against the owner by the state dog warden.”
This is why you always confirm with the airline before traveling with a pet what their requirements are.
Facebook users are rightfully appalled by this entire situation and @Annette comments, “This poor dog is so scared!!! I would NEVER leave my dog behind as they are my kids!! We (humans) don’t deserve animals!!!!! You are in for a better life now, Sweet Baby Angel.” @Jen adds, “Some people shouldn’t have pets. Sad I hope the dog finds a good home.”
The requirements for flying with a dog can vary depending on the airline and the destination, which is why it is important you check with the airline when booking a flight for you and your pet. Most airlines require proof of vaccination. Your dog will also be required to have an airline approved carrier or crate. Some smaller dogs may be allowed to travel in the cabin with you if the airline permits it. Again, check with the airline when booking your ticket.
According to USA Today, the dog is going to be turned over to the state dog warden. The animal is doing OK and in the care of rescue shelter the Animal Friends of Pittsburgh, the spokesperson said.
