Marina Mabrey and the Connecticut Sun have had an ugly start to the 2025 WNBA season, falling to 2-10 through the first 12 games.
On Friday, the Sun looked to end a four-game losing streak, taking on Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings.
With 23 seconds remaining in the first half, Dallas held a 42-40 lead with the ball. Mabrey was guarding Bueckers before the former UConn guard made a cut that Mabrey didn’t see coming, tweaking her knee as she fell toward the floor.
After taking a bit of time, the Sun star was able to limp back to the locker room with some assistance from the coaching staff.
Connecticut Sun guard Marina Mabrey left the game and is questionable to return after suffering an apparent injury to her left knee, the team announced.
Although Mabrey was able to return to the game to begin the second half, some WNBA fans were left concerned after seeing Mabrey go down, taking to social media to leave their thoughts.
“Hoping itâs nothing serious, Mabreyâs energy is too valuable to lose,” one fan said.
“PAIGE CROSSED MABREY SO BAD SHE HYPEREXTENDED HER KNEE,” claimed a second.
“Well then. Marina Mabrey just tweaked her knee guarding Paige. Thatâs really too bad. Really,” wrote a third.
“Nahhhh Did Paige Really just do that to Mabrey đ©đ©đ©đ©đ©đ©,” added another.
“Bueckers crossed up Mabrey and broke her knees,” posted a fifth.
“Paige disnengrated Mabreyâs knees,” a sixth said.

Despite the Sun’s trouble to begin her second year in Connecticut, Mabrey is having one of her best seasons. Prior to Friday’s game, the former Chicago Sky star was averaging a career-best 15.8 points on 37.4% shooting, 5.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists.
Bueckers, on the other hand, has impressed in her first season with the Wings, leading all rookies with 17.7 points. The former UConn star is also averaging 4.4 rebounds and 5.7 assists. But, like Mabrey and the Sun, Dallas has begun the season poorly with a 2-11 start.
